[edited!] haunted houses! (commissions, haunts pdf, & more!)

edit: noa was kind enough to point out that my clumsy attempts at adding some fancy colors to my newsletter made it totally unreadable on dark mode, so here's a version of this newsletter that, hopefully, will be actually readable. so sorry about the double-email! thanks, noa!! that's the only change, so if you're using light mode and could read the other email just fine, feel free to disregard this one.

hello! i'm back from my big trip to seattle and alaska (and from the alaska robotics comics camp, which was incredible and i'll write about it in another newsletter or blog post or something at some point, i promise), and i'm here with some very haunted updates for y'all.

april updates! (print sale, alaska mini-con, zines, & more!)

hello all! i hope spring has been treating you kindly, and that the weather is nice wherever you are.

print sale!

putting this one first because there's only a few more days left to get in on it! i'm having a big ol' sale over on my inprnt! i had to exhaust pretty much my whole savings to pay taxes this year (self-employment taxes sure are something!), so to help with that a little and make sure i can pay rent next month, all my prints are 20% off until may 1st! just use the promo code JDENTM!

(if you wanna help out without the incentive of getting a print, i also have a tip jar, and i really appreciate any donations!)

springtime news!

this month has been a lot of preparing for the months to come, for me. thumbnail sketches for new comic projects, reading books as research for other new comic projects, figuring out what i need to pack for my trip to the alaska robotics comic camp in may, finalizing my new website design, troubleshooting said website when it messes up.

not the most interesting stuff for a newsletter, so here's the stuff that is interesting!

2022 wrap-up

the year is almost over, somehow! this has been a really busy & exciting year for me, so here's a little look back at things i've done this year and things you can expect to see from me next year!

(this list of projects can also serve as an awards eligibility list for 2022, if, you know, you're into that kind of thing. wink.)

first, though, an announcement that's become announce-able since the last time i updated this newsletter:

trick or treat!

🎃 happy october & happy halloween! 🎃

technically, i know halloween isn't for another few days. but hey, i dunno when you're reading this. maybe you let it sit in your inbox for a bit! who am i to judge? hopefully you're reading it before all the events i'm gonna talk about in it happen, but if not, hey, glad you're reading it anyways!

halloween is a state of mind, anyways. throw out your calendars, it's halloween every day around here.

spx is this weekend! (& i moved!)

hey, y'all!

i'm here to tell you about small press expo, mostly, but first i hope you'll indulge a little rambling, because in between the last time i wrote to you and now, i've moved to a new city.

so i'm writing this from my new apartment in baltimore. it has giant windows with old-timey shutters that don't quite open or close all the way and a windowsill big enough for me to sit on while i'm sewing. it's the first time i've lived alone & had a space that was entirely mine to do whatever i want with (within the bounds of my lease, because, uh, obviously i'm renting, so i can't do any wild alterations), and even though i miss new york somethin fierce, it feels really good to have a home to myself.

if you know anything at all about my work, you probably know i have a lot of really complicated thoughts about the nature of houses and homes. i've rarely in my life had any space that really felt like a home — all my houses and apartments have been haunted by something or other. i'm excited to have someplace i can make feel like a home myself! it feels good! i'm gonna put up halloween decorations today!

september updates (spx, enamel pins, print sale, & more!)

hey there!

i hope the end of summer is treating you kindly. here's a quick newsletter with some updates for the end of august and the beginning of september. most of the art i've been working on isn't quite ready to be shared yet, so this is a pretty update-heavy one.

flamecon, july art, & more!

hey y'all! this is the first issue of my newsletter. excuse any awkwardness while i'm figuring out how to write a newsletter. it's a process. without further ado, here's some news in a letter.

• conventions •

i'll be at flamecon in nyc on august 20th & 21st (a little under two weeks from now)! i'm tabling with my lovely friend ravi teixeira, and we're gonna have a ton of amazing gay art for you. you can get tickets here and folks 21 and under get in for free on sunday.

flamecon's requiring vaccination & masks, which makes me feel way better about tabling there in the midst of, y'know, everything. flamecon is my favorite con i've ever tabled (and was my first big convention way back in 2018), and this year will be my third year tabling there! i'm super excited. it's gonna be great.
