april updates! (print sale, alaska mini-con, zines, & more!)
hello all! i hope spring has been treating you kindly, and that the weather is nice wherever you are.
print sale!
putting this one first because there's only a few more days left to get in on it! i'm having a big ol' sale over on my inprnt! i had to exhaust pretty much my whole savings to pay taxes this year (self-employment taxes sure are something!), so to help with that a little and make sure i can pay rent next month, all my prints are 20% off until may 1st! just use the promo code JDENTM!
(if you wanna help out without the incentive of getting a print, i also have a tip jar, and i really appreciate any donations!)
projects!
the kickstarter for meanwhile... a comic shop anthology is now live!
this is an 80 page anthology celebrating comic stores, edited by kevin sharp & ryan higgins. it has a ton of amazing creators in it, and i've got an illustration among them! the campaign ends may 17th, so you've got plenty of time to go grab a copy.
in other news: i'm wrapping up a bunch of projects right now, and hoping to get everything squared away before i leave for my trip. this includes finishing up the final shipments for haunts, wrapping up some comic inking, and a couple haunted house illustrations.
commissions: not open yet but probably soon!
once i get back from alaska and have finished up all of the aforementioned projects, i'm planning on opening up my haunted house commissions again!
there'll be limited slots, and i'm planning to make a google form for it to streamline things a little bit. i'm aiming for around may 20th, but more on that later — i'll send out an email once i'm ready to open them with a link to the form! in the meantime, think about what kind of houses you want haunted — i'd love to do some more weird/unconventional haunted houses, so the stranger the better.
patreon!
i made a 16-page zine about whimsy, optimism, love, and communism for this month's patreon mail! ouija board mail tier slots are full at the moment, but the zine will be posted as a pdf for folks at the haunting tier, so if you join at $5/month or more, you'll get access to that and a ton of other goodies!
i'll also be posting sketches from my seattle/juneau adventures on patreon for $5+ members that won't be available on other social media!
traveling!!
i'm going on a big trip next week! i'll be heading to seattle first, then up to juneau, alaska for the alaska robotics comics camp. i'm super excited to spend a couple days in the woods with a bunch of other comics folks and get some good art done (and, perhaps, even relax a bit?? maybe. hopefully. fingers crossed!)
i've never been to the west coast before (or further west than... detroit, i think), and i have an irrational certainty that seeing Real Mountains™ (no offense to my beloved appalachians, which have been made teeny tiny by eons of erosion and therefore do not count as Real Mountains™ in my mind) will kill me instantly. lets all keep our fingers crossed that that fear does not come to pass, and that the west coast doesn't immediately reject me like two magnets being pushed together on the wrong ends.
i also haven't been camping, or in any kind of forest for more than, like, an hour, since i was in middle school, so the same fingers crossed that i don't get eaten by mosquitos or bears while i'm there. hooray for getting out of my comfort zone a bit to do cool things!
if you happen to live in seattle or juneau: tell me the cool and/or haunted and/or gay things to do around town while i'm there! you can reply to these emails if you want. i'd love to get some recommendations!
+ alaska robotics mini-con!
do you, dear reader, happen to live in or near juneau? come to the alaska robotics mini-con on may 13th from 10am-5pm at the andrew p. kashevaroff building! i'll be there with as many comics, zines, books, and stickers as i can fit in my carry-on.
recommendations!
i mentioned the new season of yellowjackets last time, i think, but it's still super good.
musicwise, i've been listening to a lot of the superconducting supercolliders, who are not on spotify, so here's a youtube link to their song "central dogma", which is one of my favorites.
a new episode of my friend emma's podcast unnatural selection came out recently about the prince of egypt!
jenna stoeber made a video about why jumpscares are good, and you should watch it!
jacob geller made a video about execution methods (and why the idea of 'humane' ways of carrying out death sentences is a myth). you should watch that one too, but it's pretty heavy, so fair warning on that.
if you're in the toronto area, the toronto comic arts festival is this weekend! i had a blast last year and i'm so sad to be missing it this year.
tldr / summary!
print sale! code JDENTM for 20% off till may 1st! money is tough so if you like my work you can also toss some coins in my tip jar!
haunted house commissions will almost certainly be opening up again next month!
i have many tasks to complete in the couple of days before i leave for my trip, so that's all for today! i'll talk to y'all next month!
