I want to speak plainly here. I have a Privacy Policy and a Cookies Policy and all of that stuff, too, but I hate legalese.
Many businesses thrive on the concept of collecting data about individuals based on their email addresses and inbox usage. (You can read about that here.)
Buttondown is different. As a bootstrapped business, I don’t need to engage with data on level. Your information is yours, and yours alone.
Buttondown collects the standard bevy of email analytics: IP addresses, open and click events, client information. Buttondown sends that to absolutely nobody besides, well, you, the beloved customer. And if you want to completely opt out, you can.
Buttondown allowed me to remove link-tracking from the newsletter, an option very few platforms offered (at least at the time I was looking). In addition to preserving readers’ privacy, it also means they can hover their cursor over the links and see the real URLs, not the obfuscated ones that link-tracking requires.Jeremy Singer-Vine
