Issue 07: Learning Three.js and an early look at my first scene โšก๏ธ

Hi there friend ๐Ÿ‘‹

I hope the year is off to a good start! Iโ€™ve been willing to send out a new issue of this newsletter a bit earlier but got distracted busy, but for a good reason: I finally got started, and got pretty far, with Three.js, the Javascript 3D library.

This one was on my personal roadmap for way over a year, to be honest, but I kept pushing it back and every time Iโ€™d try to get into it Iโ€™d give up at the first challenge. I know many of you have been there and reached out after seeing me posting my progress on Twitter to ask for some advice Iโ€™d give in their own learning journey. So I thought Iโ€™d dedicate this newsletter to some of the steps I took/projects I made and also why I decided to do it now.

Issue 06: The case for a personal Design System ๐ŸŽ›

Hi there friend ๐Ÿ‘‹

First and foremost, I want to thank some of the new subscribers of this newsletter who took the time to write to me to introduce themselves and ask some very interesting questions. It was so nice to read from you and interact with you! Your support is very much appreciated!

For this issue, I wanted to focus on , and more importantly on what I dubbed โ€œpersonal Design Systemsโ€ (for lack of a better term):

Issue 05: Focusing and building a roadmap

Hi there friend ๐Ÿ‘‹

After a quiet second half of August and a couple of days off work, Iโ€™m ready to jump back into content creation! However, with everything moving ever so fast in the tech world, itโ€™s sometimes hard to simply focus and not get distracted by all those hype cycles happening at the same time (especially if, like me, you spend some of your free time on Twitter ๐Ÿ˜…).

Issue 04: My quest for perfect Core Web Vitals scores

Hi there friend ๐Ÿ‘‹

If you run a blog, work on a project that relies on ranking high on Google Search Engine, or hang around on Twitter and follow a bunch of frontend developers, chances are you might have heard the words Core Web Vitals, thrown around left and right in the past few months. At least on my end, my feed was filled with people showcasing their scores or sharing their concerns with Google rolling out this new metric.

You might have wondered:

Issue 03: One year of learning, writing, and building in public

Hi there friend ๐Ÿ‘‹

This issue came out a little bit later than I'd have liked to as I was preparing a move and interviewing throughout March and April. However, despite being so busy, I still got reminded of a pretty big milestone recently: It's been one year that I started to learn, write and build in public!

1 year ago today, @MaximeHeckel laid out the list of things he wanted to learn in public. Over the past year he's been slowly crossing things off: https://t.co/bnhxOShtZv

This is amazing! People often tag me when they start, but the point is to KEEP GOING. Love to see it ๐Ÿ‘ https://t.co/0OxN5J9v0A pic.twitter.com/6knKsmB8oB

Issue 02: The one about Intersection Observers

Hi there ๐Ÿ‘‹

I've recently been working on removing a lot of third-party packages on my websites and blog. The aim was to rely on as few dependencies as possible for any UI-related elements. While doing that I noticed something...

Most of the libraries I was using for things like lazy loading images or Scrollspy I was trying to replace were using the same thing under the hood: a little Javascript API called the Intersection Observer API and this is going to be the main subject of this second issue of my newsletter. โœจ
