Free creative project planning templates to get organized for the new year

Soft Practice

Hello friends,

I’ll keep it short and sweet because I’ve been really enjoying my time off this past week and I want to get back to relaxing + designing some cool stickers.

This week I published my 2020 year-in-review and 2021 preview. Check it out if that’s something you might be into!

If you want to start working on your own creative projects this year, here are some free downloadable templates (PDF or Notion versions) to help you get organized.

Things I consumed and/or recommend this week:

Paying attention to the first bird you see this year. Mine was a Canada Goose!

Writing your own 2020 Year In Review. Just for fun. Or because you know you’ll want to remember what 2020 felt like 50 years from now.

Going to the dog park. If you’re like me and don’t have a dog, go with a friend who does! It’s a great outdoor, mask-on activity that will likely bring you a little joy.

Reading one chapter of a book. I’ve been curling up right next to the space heater for maximum comfort.

The fourth and final season of The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina on Netflix. I started watching this show back in April, not expecting to like it as much as I do. It’s goofy but entertaining and at least better than Riverdale!

Designer Carolyn Zhang’s 2020 Year In Review. I appreciated Zhang’s honest account of her career anxiety that she describes as simultaneously maddening and petty in comparison to the seriousness of the rest of the problems people were facing in 2020. #relatable

A really great Twitter thread about making a career in the arts.

What follows is a long thread about making a life in the arts that is far too earnest for Twitter. Proceed at your own risk.

These penguin photos made me cry.

The lighter penguin is an elderly female whose partner died this year. The darker one is a younger male who lost his partner two years ago. Biologists have followed them as they meet every night to comfort each other. They stand for hours together watching the lights in Melbourne pic.twitter.com/VC5jOFGwYs
