It's been a hot SEO minute!
I'll tell you: people emailing me to start sending my emails again.
It was less than 5 people mind you.
But I was surprised! Even Justin (the creator of Buttondown, the email service I use) emailed to check in.
It's given me a renewed sense of purpose.
So, here we are with an SEO email on the last day, of the first month of 2022.
I'll keep it simple:
My online store is growing (Praise be!) I am learning heaps about everything else that goes with running an online store from the importance of packaging and presentation to customer service to simply just making sure everything is AMAZING. My SEO is tight and I'm grateful for the knowledge that I have. My site is on page 1 for a tonne of competitive phrases so I remain hopeful for 2022! We do a lot more work on social (IG in particular) but it's not been the huge sales driver as we thought. SEO actually is!
I still feel there's a massive disconnect between Content SEO and Technical SEO. Everyone rolls their eyes when we talk about 'more content' but eyes also glaze over when we talk about technical SEO issues. Yet somehow, more love is given to Technical SEO. When I told someone their site was (for the most part) technically sound but they really needed more content - they told me "I can get someone on fiverr to write that, so why would I pay expensive SEO fees?!". Clearly much more work is needed to give people a proper understanding of how both content and technical have to work together - not in isolation. Also, never rely on fiverr for your SEO. Good Lord.
It's easy to lose hope when your rankings and/or traffic don't go anywhere. But the key is to hold the line. As in, just stay the course. And use all the buzz words. I kid. For example, I was targeting 'seo expert dubai' and at one point I was in the top 3. I didn't spam or keyword stuff or get a lot of links. But the sites that outrank me are, by and large, a mockery of the system. All, without exception, have terrible link profiles (clearly copying each other and building links for the sake of it) along with ridiculous keyword stuffing. And don't get me started on the fake Google Maps listings claiming 24 hour operations. Don't get mad: get even. So look out world, here I come!
And that's it.
SEO will save the world. Just you see.
