A new episode and CircuitPython Day 2022

Hi everybody!

There’s a new episode out today hitting your earbuds. Meet Joshua Lowe, an 18 year old software developer who created EduBlocks in 2016. EduBlocks was created for both teachers and students and helps students bridge the gap in learning between Scratch and Python. EduBlocks has support for Python 3, HTML, BBC micro:bit, CircuitPython, and the Raspberry Pi and you’ll learn all about it in today’s episode.

I also have a special announcement: CircuitPython Day 2022 is coming up on August 19th. Each year Adafruit picks a day to celebrate CircuitPython and all things Python on Hardware and I’m happy to share I will be part of the celebration.

To kick off the day at 11:00 a.m. EDT, I’ll be hosting a panel discussion with four people sponsored by Adafruit to work on CircuitPython: Dan, Jeff, Kattni and Tim. We’ll celebrate all things code and community, take a look back at last year and all the cool things that have happened, and look forward as well. Have a question for one of them? Let me know, I’d love to hear it! Click the link for more details and I hope to see you there.

The CircuitPython Show - Episode 13 & Show News

Hi everybody!

Thank you for listening to the show - I appreciate all the support.

Earlier this year when I was planning the podcast, I was going to break each season into six episodes with a break in between. With the start of season two, I switched to a bi-weekly schedule which is working out great. Which means… no break and episode 13 comes out today! I’m going to keep season two going with new episodes every other Monday.

Unfortunately, a good friend of mine was doing the video editing and he doesn’t have the time anymore. I will post the podcast audio on YouTube, but no video for now. Sorry YouTube fans.

Episode 8: Melissa LeBlanc-Williams

New episode! In Episode 8, Melissa LeBlanc-Williams joins the show. We chat about Blinka, the CircuitPython compatibility layer for Raspberry Pis, her YouTube channel, retro tech, and more. Listen here.

The show will now be coming to you on a bi-weekly schedule. Every other week a guest will join me and we’ll chat about what they’re up to with CircuitPython or in the maker community.

You may also notice that starting with episode seven, I’ve updated the podcast to include chapters and custom photos and artwork, which most of the big podcasting apps support. Going forward, if a guest refers to something on screen, I will try and include an embedded photo in the podcast. The show is also on YouTube, too.

If you like the show, please tell a friend or write a review. Word of mouth helps so much! Or you can help support the show financially.

Episdode 7: Alie Gonzalez

After a one week break, the show is back! Alie Gonzalez joins the show and talks about her maker journey, working at Sparkfun, and the Miami tech scene. Listen here.

Season two will feature six guests and topics will include everything from discussions about midi to Blinka to keyboards and maybe even some retro tech.

If you’re enjoying the show, please consider leaving a review or telling a friend. Reviews help with the podcast algorithms and nothing is more important than word of mouth! If you’d like to help financially, your support goes towards podcast hosting, recording, and transcripts. Visit The CircuitPython Show website to sponsor the show on Github, Patreon, or Ko-Fi.

Thanks for listening and stay positive.

The CircuitPython Show Season One Wrap-Up

Today’s episode with CircuitPython’s project lead, Scott Shawcroft, brings the first season to a close. Scott chats with me about CircuitPython over the last 5 years, porting CircuitPython to work on Raspberry Pi bare metal, working with upstream, and community broadband.

I hope you enjoyed listening to the first season, I know I had fun meeting and talking with people from the community.

I’m taking next week off to catch my breath and then we’ll be back with six more episodes! I’ll talk with Liz Clark, Alie Gonzalez, Anne Barela, Pierre Constantineau, and Guy Dupont. Each person has a unique and interesting story to tell and I can’t wait to share the episodes with you.

If you’re not caught up, now is the perfect time and I’ll be back in two weeks to kick off another round of episodes.

The CircuitPython Show Episode 1 is now out!

Episode 1 of The CircuitPython Show should now be available in your favorite podcast app!

In the first episode you’ll meet Katni Rembor. She’ll talk about her open source journey, the greater CircuitPython community, what goes into an Adafruit Learn guide, and more.

And since you’re awesome and have signed up for the newsletter, here’s something exclusive about the show: I’ll also introduce two segments that I’ll ask every guest to participate in, if they choose. The first is “Turn the Tables”, where the guest can ask a question of me. Being a big vinyl record fan, I enjoy the inside joke. The second segment I’ll ask every guest: “When starting a new project or building a prototype, what microcontroller are you reaching for?” I think you’ll like some of the questions put to me and some of the answers the guests give on their favorite boards.

I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I did making it. I’m new to podcasting and live interviewing and I’m confident the show will get even better over time.

Welcome to The CircuitPython Show!

Hi, I’m Paul.

Thanks for subscribing to The CircuitPython Show newsletter. I promise to never spam you, sell your email information, or do anything I wouldn’t want someone to do with my email address. I won’t send a ton of emails out, but probably a few more than usual as the show gets ready to premiere.

Today’s a big day! I’ve released the 30 second teaser trailer for the podcast and you can listen to it right in your browser if you wish. You can also read the full transcript on the website if that’s more your thing.

If you do listen to trailer (thank you!), you’ll notice I mention the first episodes are coming this March. Since you’re awesome and have subscribed to the newsletter, I’ll share it here first: the first episode’s guest will be Kattni Rembor of Adafruit and will debut on Tuesday, March 1st!
