February 2023 Newsletter

I can’t believe it’s February already. Time flies when you’re having fun. It seems to fly faster when you’re not having much fun! Anyway, here’s February’s newsletter.

Book of the Month – February 2023

My Book of the Month for February 2023 is Love in Brief, which is free to download all month. Love in Brief is a short e-book containing 200 romance stories, each of which is just two sentences long. January 2023 Newsletter

Hello and welcome to my first newsletter of 2023. As I explained in a previous update, I'll now be sending out a newsletter on the first day of every month; this one's a bit late due to a technical hitch! Each email will be more organised and give you a closer look at what I'm working on. This is the first one and you can expect the next instalment on the first of February. There may be one or two extra emails a month if I have something to announce, such as a new e-book.

Big Plans For 2023

2023 is going to be here before we know it. Next year, I'm going to be making a concerted effort to take my writing to the next level. I'm working on some big plans and here's a preview of what's to come.

New E-Books

Of course, I'll be self-publishing some more e-books next year. Here are a few that I'm working on:

  • My Time. This will be the sequel to No Going Back. Brian enacts his plan, but how much of a success will it be?

  • The Decision Trevor Made. A horror story about a gambling addict who makes a deal with a demon

  • Bugly and Other Short Horror Stories. A collection of short horror stories. The titular story, Bugly, is about a young boy who gets on the wrong side of a spider with terrifying abilities

Going Wide and Dog Flight Giveaway

Just a quick email with two updates to share. One is to do with e-book availability, the other is about a free giveaway.

Going Wide

Previously, my e-books were only available on Amazon. Now, they're listed on four more platforms: Apple Books, Barnes and Noble Nook, Google Play and Kobo. I've 'gone wide' to reach more readers and make promotion more effective. From now on, all new e-books I self-publish will be on all five platforms.

Writing Progress Update 3

It's been a while since I last sent out a newsletter. I've been busy holidaying and whatnot, but now I'm back in the swing of writing. The main project I'm working on right now is My Time, the sequel to No Going Back. I was going to call it No Going Back: My Time, but I've decided on the shorter title because it's less of a mouthful. I'm enjoying writing it and I'm throwing lots of ideas into the story. It should be coming out later this year. Probably December, in all likeliness. As usual, I won't be revealing any spoilers. All I'll say is that it's going to be an interesting read.

As well as My Time, I'm working on two short horror stories. These are probably going to be around 15,000 to 20,000 words or so. I should have the first one out in August. Its title is Twitch and it's about a man and his meddling mother who has visions of the future. Another story I'm working on is The Sculptor. This one's about a woman who wants the perfect man and ends up acquiring him through supernatural means. However, drastic changes have to happen for their relationship to have a chance of surviving.

So here's a tentative release schedule:

  • August: Twitch

  • October: The Sculptor

  • December: My Time

New E-books - Dog Flight and Other Short Horror Stories and Love in Brief: 200 Two-Sentence Romance Stories

I'm very pleased to announce the release of two more e-books: Dog Flight and Other Short Horror Stories and Love in Brief: 200 Two-Sentence Romance Stories. The first, as its name suggests, is a collection of short horror stories. There are seven in total and they range in length from a few thousand words to about nine thousand words. Below is a summary of some of my personal favourites:

  • Beauty Thine, Beauty Mine. An artist wants to find and paint a woman of exceptional beauty. He finds her but doesn't want anyone else to paint her

  • Dog Flight. This is about a woman and her dog who go out for a walk at night but end up encountering something sinister in the woods

  • Too Far Back. A time traveller visits the future but decides to live in the past instead. However, he makes a grave mistake along the way.

I've thoroughly enjoyed writing these short stories and am glad to have them all done and dusted. A number of them are based on some of the stories in Terror In Brief: 200 Two-Sentence Horror Stories, which you should read if you haven't already done so.

Then there's Love in Brief: 200 Two-Sentence Romance Stories. This e-book is made up of two hundred short stories, each of them two sentences long, and each of them related to love, relationships and romance in some way. Don't worry though, there's nothing too gushy or explicit! The stories in this e-book are split into three sections:

New E-books and a Free Giveaway

You wait for something then two come along at once. I'm excited to announce that not one, but two new e-books of mine are available to download. Both of them are short poetry collections. Wine Not? is all about alcohol and getting drunk, while Sweet and Sour is about love and relationships.

Wine Not? follows a nameless main character as he embarks on a night out. He has some drinks and ends up getting quite drunk. The poems cover his night out and the morning after when he reflects on alcohol and the effects that it has on him. The poems in Sweet and Sour are split into three sections: Single, Taken and Single Again. As the e-book's title suggests, some of the poems are positive and some are a bit more negative.

If either one of these new e-books - or both - sounds appealing to you, go ahead and download them. Please leave a rating and review if you enjoy what you read.

Now for the good stuff.

Writing Progress Update 2

Another month has passed and it's time for another Writing Progress Update. I'm still working on No Going Back: My Time (the sequel to No Going Back and I'm on track to have it finished and available to download by the end of the year. The collection of rants about Christmas that I mentioned in the previous writing update is now up - download Not So Festive if you want to see what my Scrooge-esque thoughts on Christmas are. I also mentioned a collection of short horror stories. I'm still in the process of editing these and I'm looking to publish them in April.

What else have I been up to? I've been working on a few more short e-books and should be getting these published in April too. Here's a summary of them:

  • Wine Not? - Poems about alcohol and getting drunk

  • Sweet and Sour - Poems about love and relationships

  • Love in Brief: 200 Two-Sentence Romance Stories - A follow-up to Terror in Brief: 200 Two-Sentence Horror Stories, though with a love/romance theme

Once I've got these short e-books done, I'll be focusing on polishing off my short horror stories. Then the focus will be No Going Back: My Time, though no doubt I'll end up working on one or two other projects as well.

New E-book - Not So Festive

Hello! I'm pleased to announce that I've released a new e-book: Not So Festive. This is a short e-book that's all about Christmas, but from a Scrooge's perspective. It's essentially a series of rants about various aspects of Christmas that, for one reason or another, I can't stand.

If you're not the biggest fan of Christmas yourself and you want to read my thoughts on it, download Not So Festive. If you enjoy reading it, please consider leaving a rating and review.

Thanks for reading,

Writing Progress Update 1

Hello! This is just a quick email to update you on my writing progress. I'm the sort of writer who doesn't work on a single project at a time. I usually have several on the go at once. I've recently been working on three main projects:

  • No Going Back: My Time, the sequel to No Going Back

  • A collection of rants about Christmas

  • A collection of short horror stories

I've so far written a few chapters of No Going Back: My Time. Without giving too much away, I'm finding it both interesting and exciting to be writing about Brian enacting his plan and seeing where it takes him. The novel will be similar in length, structure and tone to the first one, but it will have slightly more 'action' - if you can call it that - as Brian is actively trying to make a success of his plan. I can't say too much more without giving things away. What I will say is that it's going to have a definitive ending - there's not going to be a third instalment.

As for the Christmas-themed e-book, this is going to be a short collection of rants about the big day. It's basically me revealing my true thoughts and opinions, holding nothing back and making Scrooge proud!

New E-book - Viral: Moving On

Hello! I'm pleased to announce that my newest e-book, Viral: Moving On, is now available to download.

Back in 2020, I self-published Viral, which is a collection of pieces of writing about COVID-19. Viral: Moving On is the follow-up. It includes over 60 pieces of writing that are grouped into the following three sections:

  • Post-Lockdown

  • Lessons

  • The Future

The first looks at life after being locked down. The second discusses possible lessons we can learn from the pandemic. The third is about how we move on from the virus.
