I have some updates to announce that I'm very happy and energized about. Big plans for 2023 and the years ahead. First, the name of this Newsletter will remain 'ENERGY TRANSMISSION'. As a fellow reader you know that I do interviews and interludes in form of listicles.
The interviews from now on will be called 'ENERGY EXCHANGE' as it is much more about collaboration, exchanging ideas and energies with each other.
The listicles will still be called 'ENERGY SOURCES' as this is a perfect name for what it is imho.
And I'm planning on doing some specials again, for example after SXSW; those will have no special name whatsoever.
The second update: I will be partnering with THE AMBITION. It is a content-collaboration partnership that goes both ways. I become part of their editorial team beginning in January. You will some stuff by me on their magazine and IG channel – keep an eye out! Plus, the agency supports me in unlocking the next level of this newsletter here. Very much looking forward to it. Very happy to see this project grow. Grateful for each and every subscriber. ✨
Expect the next interview in February '23 – please.
Resuming to my format "ENERGY SOURCES": this listicle format helps me to fill the gaps while trying to send out a newsletter every month.
So, here we go again!
It consists of things I found on the Internet or in the streets, that infused me with some kind of vibes that I wanted to share with you. To celebrate the upcoming partnership this time my sources will be Hip Hop heavy.
If you have any recommendations, links or wanna chat – please feel always free to reply to the mails. Thank you. 🙏
These are my new energy sources for December '22:
bubbleplastic.shop – After Shopping Soap™
Some personal stuff first: during the insane shopping weeks around Black Friday, our collective bubbleplastic launched another project: the After Shopping Soap™. I think, that this time we outdid ourselves with the overall concepts, all the little details you can find in their and the produced assets. Yea, I'm bragging right now – but I'm just very very proud of what we did here. As I am writing this newsletter, I can't say if there are still some bundles left. Better be quick!
Plus, we initiated another little launch event at an old temple of consumerism in Hamburg's most visited shopping street. Check the IG highlights here.
Two albums I got on repeat since they came out are SZA's genius 'SOS' and Little Simz' new LP 'NO THANK YOU'. The first one is a 23-track strong album that has it all for me. It shows all variations of hip hop, r&b and soul, even rock, you want from a voice like SZA. For me honestly, this woman is on her way to becoming a superstar. Not only is she the perfect Frank Ocean substitute but her numbers speak for themselves. And Little Simz, I mean come on. You should've had her last album on repeat already. She should be on all 'top female rappers' lists ever. Have some fun enjoying these wonderful albums!
boylife – Some Songs in New York
Another gem I stumbled upon when hyping myself up for the latest and last ever BROCKHAMPTON releases THE FAMILY & TM, was the producer and multi-talented singer, songwriter and what not boylife. His album 'gelato' is perfect for mellow winter days, but that live show he put on YouTube is something else. Check it out and get goosebumps. Gelato Williams shows us how versatile 'hip hop' in general can be.
Everytime I put something from Joji in my newsletter, I am still stunned by the fact that this guy started out as Filthy Frank and Pink Guy. He also gifted us with the Harlem Shake in the early days of virals. This voice, this talent should be protected at all costs. Coming from rapping for fun now evolved to some of the most wonderful songs I have ever heard. And the visuals are always stunning as well. The video for 'Die For You' was created by the experimental creative studio Actual Objects.
bipolar sunshine – American Dream
This song is something I have never heard before. I love it when you can't put things in genres and boxes. Pump it at full volume! "The singer-songwriter Bipolar Sunshine — real name Adio Marchant — is a remarkable builder of bridges: between the rarefied and the regular, the accessible and the experimental, the heartbreaking and the heartwarming. That spirit has carried through all Bipolar Sunshine’s music thus far, from his platinum-selling DJ Snake collaboration “Middle” to his experience co-writing the Grammy-winning “Brown Skin Girl” by Beyonce and WizKid. Marchant says his music will always be driven by two factors — realism and fun — and that’s always carried through, no matter his musical partner."
Aprospos multi-talented YouTube stars... one of my favorite creators on the platform will forever be NakeyJakey. His video essays on different topics in gaming and pop culture in general are genius and most fun to watch with a friend. He always felt the need to also put his musical talents to the test. Now resulting in a self-produced 8-track album called 'ROMCOM'. He's rapping, he's singing and he produced everything by himself. It's worth checking out this effort and also his low-fi music videos. Bet he's a great guy to hang out with. Do want you want.
Lil Uzi Vert – Just Wanna Rock
Please, Uzi, give us more of this! This stuff is sooo addictive. The beat, his voice, the video. Everything is so crazy, so absurd and so absurdly addictive you hit play over and over again. Lil Uzi Vert is experimenting a lot with genres and new ways, and I am all here for it. After vibing to 'Just Wanna Rock' you should definitely check out his punk-experiment with Blink182 which got leaked. Not yet fully produced but still shows how versatile Uzi can be: PSYCHO.
SHIRT is different. He is an artist in everything he does. He puts out rap albums from time to time but you need to dive into the works of this underground artist to really get it. His new album 'I turned myself into myself' is out now. More of his conceptual works can be found and purchased here.
Why randomly put a photographer in this list?! I was researching some nice moods and product shots for a client and found Lauren Bramford. How she portrays products and sets the scene to obscurely different just felt very fresh. Check out here works and keep an eye for her in the next magazine you read.
This weird football World Cup in Qatar is over. Besides that it should have never happened it gave us the best final you could've wished for and one of the best games I have ever seen. Messi deserved the win to end his career and Mbappé will be his successor. Anyways, I found this nice series of articles between all the harsh criticism and voices against Qatar as host: "Amid the criticism and debate surrounding the 2022 FIFA World Cup, we have rarely heard from people who live and work in Qatar. From workers and students to artists and community football coaches, GOALS is a year-long series in collaboration with The Sports Creative, Qatar Foundation, Generation Amazing, and Salam Stores. More than 40 people, representing 20 nationalities - the majority women - share their own stories of football, community, and life in Qatar in 2022." Definitely worth checking out, because this is a perspective I have not found anywhere else.
I love it when Instagram inspires me to go out for a run. This channel is one of the best running channels on the app. I regularly found myself just scrolling its feed over and over again. My friend Chris really created something special here and I can just recommend to leave a follow and check out his newsletter as well! 🌪️
Yes, I can't stop talking, writing and posting about running. But I love to see the sport evolve at a hell of a pace. Brands keep pushing technology of running gear to the limit. New designs come out every week. And there are some that are just jaw-droppingly awesome. Like this S/LAB Kilt by Salomon and Greater Goods. "To pay heritage to the Scottish mountain running community who battle it out through the dark dreich conditions year in and year out".
Another product that caught my attention was RUN AS YOU ARE – or RAYA for short. I think, it's the first NFT/Web3 project I am really invested in. Like, really invested in. Spending time on their Discord and everything. You buy yourself one of the NFT runners which is already exciting, since they have different archetypes and kinds of clothing and then you sync your real life efforts to collect points, solve missions and redeem everything for special discounts, products and more at their partners. At the moment there is a special Holiday Mission where cities and teams compete to get a huge donation for the local food bank. It really feels like this is what an NFT-club should be. Evolving your collection through real life efforts and bringing a community and reward system into it.
Back to IG. Another channel I can totally recommend for inspiration to lace up your running shoes and go out there for some kms, is @whypeoplerun. It basically is just that: it portrays people and they state why they run. I know why I do it, but I love to read why others do it.
Something that deserves more attention: VIETTI x Samutaro. I've been having a great relationship with family-owned fashion store VIETTI for years now and it is so great to see how the next generation led by Andrea pushes the former small boutique to new spheres. Beautiful brick and mortar stores in Arona at the lake Maggiore meet a state of the art online shop. And now they've worked with Samutaro for their latest installment of 'A Talk With'. This really marks stepping up their game in terms of content and production. And that there is more than just selling fashion. Congrats!
That's it for now. I hope you feel inspired or energized in any way by this newsletter and make the most of it!
Get out there – but protect your energy.✨
I hope that this holiday season brings you peace, happiness, and a sense of community. Warmest wishes for a happy holiday season 🎄
Stoked to kick off the new year with another ENERGY SOURCES #07.
See you in 2023! 🫂✨
