Things I liked this week (Week 51, 2021)

Ok, I lied, one more quick email this year. As you peer at your very long shadows on this Winter Solstice here are some end of the year lists that I enjoyed:

  1. The New Yorker's The Best Podcasts of 2021. I subscribed to 3 new podcasts based on this list.

  2. 52 things I learned in 2021. Tom Whitwell's always enjoyable end of the year list of nuggets. Favorite one: "Short afternoon naps at the workplace lead to significant increases in productivity, psychological well-being and cognition. In contrast, an extra 30 minutes sleep at night shows no similar improvements."

  3. I haven't even dug into Said the Gramophone's list of best songs of 2021, but it's usually worth the time. Also, this intro is great: "Said the Gramophone is an old blog and we publish rarely. Writing about these songs is a tradition now almost two decades old and at this point it feels deeply seasonal -- at the end of November I start feeling like I imagine pumpkins must feel in August; or bears as the first frosts appear. I have something to do now. A habit that's made its way into my bones."

  4. And, as previously linked, Largehearted Boy's list of book lists. Usually a great source of new reads.

I hope you find something to help you get through the long winter nights.
