Woodrow's Pandemic Plan
I know the below is a bit out of the standard for this newsletter, yet I wanted to document my current, and future, thoughts on how I’ll personally address this pandemic, and the calls to massively adjust our lifestyles.
I present this not only to get it off my chest, but also as a set of decision points others can take in, if they so wish.
DISCLAIMER: I have privilege. My baseline is that I work from home in a position that’s fairly stable. I was already well-stocked on a number of items.
I want to call out that not everyone can, or should, take the below steps (esp. the take-out one — Asian restaurants can use the business, as can most smaller businesses!)
And to be very certain — if self-care means not reading this, please be at peace with skipping.
As of 3/14, I will not be leaving home, save for close family, key re-stocks, and crisis.
Where possible, I will re-stock via online shopping and delivery — and if I cannot, ordering to pick-up in store as a strong preference.
I will confirm guidance on mail/package with regards to viral infection, and follow it.
All meals will be cooked at-home. No take-out/delivery unless I can confirm status to a high degree of confidence, or have a crisis situation.
When visiting close family, I will notify them at least one day ahead of my arrival, so they can make good decisions.
I will keep a weather eye on my physical condition, esp. for coughs and sneezes outside the norm.
I have a thermometer, and will check my body temp every other day.
I will keep all food-related surfaces in house clean, and discuss use of bleach to kill viruses, including SARS-COVID-2.
I will overcome my aversion to a clean office, and remedy it by 3/19.
I will reach out by 3/22 to folx who want to chat over webcam, and set up to do so on the regular.
I will look into re-starting a number of coding and crafting efforts, date TBD.
I will update this document, esp. if I test positive/become symptomatic for COVID-19.
