Accountability: Ideating vs Building
There's a lot of accountability that's put on your shoulders when you tweet or say "I'm building xyz". Especially when its a reply or promise to someone that you'll build xyz in a relatively short amount of time.
I've been guilty of this before and so have many people reading this; which is why I believe I need to reset back to saying "no" more than taking up a task I can't or don't feel motivated to.
Sure, we can have amazing ideas; but 99% of the value comes in the product, not the idea; which is why I'm making a promise to myself that I won't start tweeting or messaging people that I'm building something unless I have the first few lines of code in.
Takeaways:
- Do what you say you will
- There's much more upside of building something without publicizing first even if its a simple form
- 99% of the value comes in the creation, not the ideation of a product.
- Publicize when nearly done or done. Don't feel guilt sharing what you built!
