The book sale is back!
Spread the word: our next book sale is next week!
You can come into the book sale room and pick and choose which books you want. We provide you the bag and you can fill one (or 10 of them) for $5.
Here is the book sale schedule:
Β --Tuesday April 26th 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM (Preview Night for the Friends of the Library) Join the Friends of the Library and get early access before the crowds descend on the book sale Wednesday morning. The shelves are CRAMMED with books! You can join the Friends at any time! Membership to the Friends is different than having a library card; membership forms for the Friends are available on the Friends bulletin board at the library or on the library website. You can also join at the door on Tuesday night. Enter the main entrance of the library and by the green sign for the community rooms will be a table where you can check in (current Friends members) or join (new Friends members.) Once you are checked in and ready to go, you will be given a bag to fill with books and more!
We normally close at 5:00 PM on Tuesdays but we are remaining open until 7:00 PM. Even if you are not going to the book sale, enjoy the extra hours that the library will remain open!
--Wednesday, April 27th 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM
--Thursday, April 28th 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM
--Friday, April 29th 9:00 PM to 5:00 PM
--Saturday, April 30th 9:00 AM to 3:00 PMΒ
As always, please spread the word to friends and relatives about the Friends of the Library, who provide wonderful support to our great library!
Book donations to the library
The Friends book sale consists of your generous donations of books, movies, and more. We accept book donations during the libraryβs regular business hours. We accept gently used books, DVDβs and music CDs. We do not accept faded/yellow/red/battered/moldy books, textbooks, encyclopedias, VHS tapes, or magazines. A general rule of thumb: if you wouldnβt give the item to someone as a gift, we wonβt accept it.
Once donated, the books become the property of the library and are evaluated in the same manner as purchased materials. Materials that are useful to the library collection are retained, and other materials are placed in the book sale or disposed of in whatever manner the library deems best. The donor is not notified about the final disposition of the book. The library cannot guarantee or ensure that donated items will be added to the library collection.
Throwback review β this week I go back in time and share a special review from my vault.
DAMN. By Kendrick Lamar (music CD: rap/hip-hop)
I am re-sharing this review because this month marks 5 years since the release of DAMN. I feel that it has stood the test of time both in the music industry and for me personally. The album includes one song, DNA, which is my top-played song since its release.
Kendrick Lamar is from the Compton neighborhood of Los Angeles. He is considered the protΓ©gΓ© of Dr. Dre and performed alongside him along with Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent, Eminem, and others at this yearβs Super Bowl halftime show.
DAMN. sold 603,000 copies in its first week and as of May 2018 it has gone triple platinum (3 million copies sold.) The music review website Pitchfork, known for being a harsh critic, gave DAMN. a 9.2 out of 10 rating. It became the first non-jazz or classical work to earn a Pulitzer Prize for Music and won Best Rap Album at the 2018 Grammy Awards.
I have never recommended on my weekly book report a music CD and I was hesitant to list this album in particular. It is a rap / hip-hop album that is both strange and multifaceted. Lamar and the new album are able to be esoteric and mainstream at the same time, a trait maybe only he possesses. Lamar has strived to lift up social equality movements in recent years and on DAMN. he takes a breather. The many marches, protests, and close family members of his dying has left him exhausted and faced with the opportunity to address his contradictions. I believe we all should make time for that kind of exercise.
You can find this title in our music CD section. Borrow it today!

Come see us up and close! π
Almost 2 years ago we put up plexiglass cough guards around our front desk. Much has changed since then. Last Friday we took them down! Stop in and check it out!
