London Podcast Festival programmer Zoë Jeyes is never not listening to a pod
I’ve been having the busiest August of my life. How is it the 21st already?!
However hectic my month is, though, it’s not a patch on that of my latest guest Zoë Jeyes, for sure.
Producer & Programmer of the London Podcast Festival (as well as Deputy Managing Director and Comedy Programmer of Kings Place), Zoë invited me to pop into her office for a chat about the history of the venue and festival, what she thinks make a good podcast and live show, plus an insight into just how dedicated she is to discovering new and exciting podcasts!
The line-up includes podding stars like Adam Buxton, Richard Herring and The Guilty Feminist but with 60 live shows, there are loads of new voices to discover as well.
Things I’ve been writing / making / doing
Planning a live pod! There will be stand-up, acting, quizzes, even some Freelance Pod merch up for grabs…
Here’s a preview of the dreamy cover:
You can get a copy at the print launch party (I’ll be there) on 12th September, and online pre-orders will be available soon…
Remember their Guardian Weekend takeover last year? That pink Michaela Coel cover! Iconic is the word.
Things I’ve been reading
Can You Hack Your Body Clock To Become A Morning Person? I Tried It Out - as I discussed with the writer of the piece, freelance journalist Jenny Stallard, we’re both natural night owls who try to wake up early to make the most of the freelance work day… hmmm, that’s not enough sleep, is it? I love how open and honest Jenny is about her feelings throughout the article. It all feels very familiar!
Things I’ve been watching
Channel 4’s new complaints advert is very good, but also a bit sinister at times
Saving my eyes for the imminent Taskmaster Series 9
Things I’ve been listening to
Well, I guess this is future tense, but I’ve now got tickets for a few London Podcast Festival shows: Mostly Lit, The Allusionist, Rule of Three. I may well buy some more… and a few of the workshops at the Podcast Maker Weekend are catching my eye too…
Switch Off with Konnie Huq, especially the Deborah Frances-White and Charlie Brooker episodes
This delightful episode of Blank Podcast with Rufus Sewell
Another future one: I’m excited about the return of Short Cuts on Radio 4 next week
That’s all from me this week! x
