Irregular Reveries 8: The Flinch
Hey there,
a friend has asked why I just copy the article of the week in the newsletter. The truth is I was lazy, and this required the least amount of effort. So, here’s something different.
This week’s article
I’ve published an article about my fight with the flinch, which I experience every time I publish an article or send out the newsletter. Seth Godin calls this the reptile brain, and Steven Pressfield calls it the resistance. I think anyone who releases something experiences this and shipping regularly is a great way to fight it.
Content candy
I quit Twitter last week, and I have immediately noticed that I’m less anxious and have more time and energy.
I keep remembering this great comic. It explains how we are overstimulated and how our primal instincts are being hijacked.
Something to think about
“By going constantly from book to book, without ever stopping, without returning to the hive now and then with one’s supply of nectar — hence without taking notes or constituting a treasure store of reading — one is liable to retain nothing, to spread oneself across different thoughts, and to forget oneself.”
Michel Foucault, Self Writing
