Irregular Reveries 15: Writing-Guided Reading
Hi,
I spent this past weekend cycling since the weather was perfect. I rode almost 200k and had a fantastic group ride to a nearby town. I'm spreading the gospel of pedal to everyone I know. Sorry about that, I can't help it.
This week's article
I wrote about my experience finding things to read through writing in this week's article. If you're not sure how to find your next book to read, this might help.
Content candy
I've enjoyed this "Of Dollars and Data" article about books and the note on how low we are paying the most remarkable authors on the planet when we buy their books.
"If you divide the time Lewis took to write Liar's Poker by the price you paid for it, you are paying Lewis less than $0.004 per hour to write Liar's Poker. That's less than half a cent per hour to have one of the greatest finance writers in history do research and write a compelling narrative for your reading pleasure."
Something to think about
"He steps under the shower, a forceful cascade pumped down from the third floor. When this civilisation falls, when the Romans, whoever they are this time round, have finally left and the new dark ages begin, this will be one of the first luxuries to go. The old folk crouching by their peat fires will tell their disbelieving grandchildren of standing naked mid-winter under jet streams of hot clean water, of lozenges of scented soaps and of viscous amber and vermilion liquids they rubbed into their hair to make it glossy and more voluminous than it really was, and of thick white towels as big as togas, waiting on warming racks." — Ian McEwan, Saturday
Question for you
When was the last time you did something for the first time?
