No. 6: Adventures in people-first growth ๐ฟ
Sarah Avenir is a student and teacher of people-first growth ๐ฟ
(Hey look, it's a new newsletter title! ๐)
Backstory: I've been taking Anne-Laure's Collector to Creator course the past couple of weeks (which I believe is no longer open for registration; bummer). I have a system in place for note-taking and weaving what I'm learning into my writing, but I'm exploring how to make it better. One weakness is that I insist on being vague about what my newsletter is about. Vaguery no more!
Now onto the newsletter ๐

โจ Constellating: An idea for people-first networking
We've been experimenting with quite a few systems at &yet lately. One of those systems is how we connect with new people. We've tried many things, and the only thing that's felt right to us is doing really special events. But as "right" as that felt on a heart level, those events just about wore us out every time. (And now, there's Covid.)
We're working on a gentler way of doing regular digital events as the basis for a system of connection we're calling "Constellating." It's experimental, but we're putting together our thoughts for our next educational experience after Find Your Weirdos wraps up.

๐ You Belong: A Call for Connection by Sebene Selassie
Speaking of connection, I learned about Sebene Selassie's work through Jocelyn K. Glei's Hi-Fi class that I took this summer.
You Belong spoke to me on a deep level; how we discover our individual and collective belonging might just be the question I've been asking all my life. I took so many notes!

๐ฏโโ๏ธ More people-first growth people
We've been on the lookout at &yet for other folks approaching business growth in a people-first way. We're starting to collect them in this Twitter list. Have someone to add (or for that matter, any resources you've been learning from)? Please send them my way.

๐ Demand-Side Sales by Bob Moesta
If you use the Jobs To Be Done framework to steer your product development, this is the sales side of that framework.
Demand-Side Sales has changed my customer interview life. We've used it at &yet to develop a system of questions that need to be answered to truly understand customers and to get specific about meeting them where they're at and helping them get where they want to go.
Again, I've taken lots of notes!

๐ฎ What's next
-
As part of the Collector to Creator class, I'm starting to write articles on what I'm learning in my research about approaching growth in a people-first way (as a way of seeding my chapter-writing for the book. I'm excited, and also nervous, to start write public articles again. It's been years.
-
I'm also adjusting my public Roam project to be less vague and more useful, now that I'm clearer about what I want to focus on.
Thanks for being here, and for being up for all of my pivots, turns, and roundabout ways of discovery. Grateful for all of you.
