πβοΈ Important house-keeping thing
Hello friends,
***Re the subject line: I'm requesting a quick reply from you, if you'd like to keep receiving mail from me. I'll tell you why down below.***
There are moments when we open our eyes and there's a gift there, right in front of us, at exactly the right time. For me, after the death of my younger brother and the acquihire of the &yet team this summer, that gift was the work of Christopher Alexander.
If you're not familiar with Alexander's work, he's an architect who established a way of building rooms, houses, and even entire cities that have a feeling of aliveness when we inhabit them. He says anyone can build this way, and that in fact, we all need to learn to build this way, because our spaces either make us come alive or they deaden what is naturally alive inside of us.
Aliveness is a quality, he says, that needs to become the measuring stick for every small step we take in the act of creation.
Ever since I read Alexander's The Timeless Way of Building, I've been obsessed with this idea of aliveness. I've been asking myself, "What makes me come alive?" and also "How can I invest in the aliveness of myself and the people around me?"
An invitation is coming soon
I have an idea of how I might answer these questions, and I'm preparing an invitation for you so we can explore this together. However! I'm going to do a bit of housekeeping first.
For my own sense of aliveness, my work is headed in a direction that relies more on relationship rather than megaphone-ing to a big audience. Because of that, before I invite people to participate in this next thing with me, I'd like to request a signal that you're interested in that, too:
πβ¨π If you want to keep hearing from me, please reply to this email with a "Yes, I'm here" or something like that. You can also send me an update on how you're doing at the moment, but only if you want to.
If you don't respond, I'll be sending one more email out in the coming weeks to catch anyone who didn't get this first email. After that, you'll stop receiving emails from me.
Thanks in advance for helping me with this bit of housekeeping.
Wishing you all the best things,
Sarah
