Day Zero: let's go!
Hey there,
Thank you for subscribing to this nonsense. I have no idea what it's going to be; no specific plans or ideas, just a free-form letter, from me to you.
Just published a post about going analog. I guess journaling is as good a starting point as any.
It's weird that after decades of being violently pro-digital, I came to a realization that digital doesn't mean better, not necessarily. I mean, a lot of stuff is certainly better when delivered or stored digitally (for one, I welcome movies being released directly to streaming services on day one), but with time some things have to become tangible, real.
For the past 15 years or so, I've been managing a bunch of my to-do lists and tasks, and projects in a variety of apps. Some of these apps are gone forever, others are degraded into subscription services... Basically, 15 years later I have very little trace of what I've been up to. The same goes for multitudes of blogs I've run over the years. Most of what I've written online is lost forever, not even Internet Time Machine can help. Not that it matters that much, but I guess I want some proof that I've been thinking something all these years; that I had ideas and revelations struggles that I can't recall anymore (but hey, they were huge back then, I guess).
As a result of all this thinking, I'm at least 50% analog again. And I really feel so much more fulfillment and satisfaction after I check off a few daily tasks, write a page in my journal, and rapid-capture a few ideas and goals for days to come. Oh, and it's a special perk to be able to reference any past discussion I've had at work right there on the Zoom call by just flipping through my notepad! Apparently, it's way easier to memorize things if you physically write them down in a somewhat systematic way. I know, I know... But it was news to me!
Anyway, I hope this letter is not too annoying. Next on the agenda is more about my analog life (I've got a few neat tricks for successful and fulfilling paper life), oh, and my extended experience with the Moonlander keyboard.
Cheers,
Art
