Spring Has Sprung!
Greetings! Spring has sprung here in the DC Metro Area, and we are in full swing here in the R2 Studios. Our new team is fully in place, and we are delighted to be working together. However, despite the fact that we love what we do, we can't do it for free, and that's where you come in. You can become a member of R2 Studios and support the production of great audio. Read on to learn more!
The Consolation Prize team is working on our next episode, which features the Vatican and the Papal States. Conspiracy, war, and stinging rebukes--stay tuned! We have had wonderful responses to our "Views and Re-views" episode about James Weldon Johnson, where we explored his involvement in a coup and a revolution, so if you missed it, take a listen now!
The Green Tunnel has dropped a new Iconic Locations episode. This episode is about Mt. Washington, which has some of the most extreme weather in the lower 48 states. However, the extreme weather doesn't keep folks away. Indeed Mt. Washington is home to a visitor center, an observatory, and even a little railway! Stay tuned later this week for our next episode about trail shelters.
Our marketing manager, Bridget, has been hard at work engaging with our listeners. She says, "for the recent Green Tunnel episode, 'Leave Only Footprints,' about the history of Leave No Trace on the Appalachian Trail, we've received a lot of engagement from local organizations that we shouted out in the episode, like Keep Virginia Cozy, Virginia Outdoors, and Responsible Stewardship. We were glad to be able to shout out these awesome organizations and appreciate their reciprocated responses!"
We have been listening to a podcast that you might enjoy, Drafting the Past. Self described as "a podcast dedicated to the craft of writing history. Each week, host Kate Carpenter interviews a historian about their writing process, tools, philosophies, and snacks." It's worth a listen!
We are delighted that our boss, the Director of R2 Studios & beloved GMU professor, Dr. Abby Mullen, has been nominated for an award! If you have a moment to spare, you can vote for her to win the digital humanities award for her post about the (cue the sad music) close out of Consolation Prize. The category is, "BEST EXPLORATION OF DH FAILURE/LIMITATIONS (E.G. AN ARTICLE/POST ON WHY A PROJECT FAILED, OR PROBLEMS WITH DH)" DH Awards 2021 Voting | Digital Humanities Awards.
