Shelter From the Storm
Greetings! In our last newsletter it seemed that spring had sprung in the DC area, but Mother Nature had one more wintery storm in store for us. So it was fitting that our most recent episode of the Green Tunnel was about trail shelters. Our team had a great time producing that for you. If you appreciate our efforts, you can become a member of R2 Studios and support the production of great audio. Read on to learn more!
The Consolation Prize team posted our latest episode, "States of Confusion" which "explores the long and complicated relationship between the United States and the Papal States, the political-religious home of the Roman Catholic Church." Confused? Never fear, after listening to "States of Confusion" you will know the difference between the Vatican, Rome, the Holy See, and the Papal States, and how the United States interacted with them during a very tumultuous time in history.
The Green Tunnel team was back at it, enlightening us about Appalachian Trail shelters, which are far more than just cover from rain (or snow if you were on the trail this past weekend)--they are a place of community. Tune in and find out about the more than 250 trail shelters and hiker hostels that help make the AT more than just a trail.
Our marketing manager, Bridget, has been hard at work. She even went camping near the AT during the ATKO (Appalachian Trail Kick Off) where she met Natasha. Thanks for the feedback, Natasha! You made our day!
We have been listening to a podcast that you might enjoy, Into the Depths. It's a National Geographic podcast about "some of the thousand slave ships that wrecked in the Atlantic Ocean during the transatlantic slave trade and follows a group of Black divers who are dedicated to finding and helping document the wrecks." It's worth a listen.
As we mentioned above, our very own Bridget went camping on the AT to attend the hiking season kickoff. As many of you heard in our, "Danger" episode there are bears on the AT, lots of them. When Bridget was startled awake at 3am to the sound of a bear growling she thought of that episode. However, after listening anxiously for a minute, she was reminded of our most recent episode, "Give Me Shelter" which explains why in some places on the AT there are two shelters, one for snoring and one for non-snoring. Bridget was indeed delighted to find that all she needed was earplugs, and not bear spray, to muffle the sound of the camper snoring nearby.
