Launches all over the place
Welcome back to Good Tape! Our coffers are overflowing with good audio for you to listen to this week. Consolation Prize launched Season 2 this week, and The Green Tunnel is still going strong.
Did you know that there's now a way to support R2 Studios financially? When you become a member of the studio, you help to support great audio. You can give a one-time donation, or you can set up a recurring donation. Whatever you can give, we appreciate it! Your donations go toward promotion of our shows, better sound effects (yes, really!), and many other things. You can find the details at our website.
Episode 2 of The Green Tunnel is now live. "What Came Before" is all about communities and people who lived in the Appalachian Mountains where the trail runs now. We've got three stories of different communities whose presence along the AT is only marked by ruins and monuments now.
Season 2 of Consolation Prize has launched! In Episode 1, "Troublemakers in Tahiti," we looked at how the early U.S. consuls to the island actually made things worse for the United States and Tahiti because of their venal and corrupt behavior. Plus, we released a complementary episode called "Beyond the Consul: Tahiti," where you can hear more of the interview with Patty O'Brien, one of our experts from the episode, and learn more about Tahiti as a place.
We love to see historians on big-name shows, so this week our feature is "What Keeping American Democracy Alive Looks Like," from the Ezra Klein Show. Martha S. Jones talks about the historic roots of the current political situation in the United States, and how crises like this have come up before. (We've linked here to Spotify because it's not behind a paywall, but the New York Times does provide a transcript for the show for subscribers to NYT.)
This is a true moment of delight from our first episode of Consolation Prize for the season--it made the whole team laugh out loud during our edit session! It's the end of a story about Samuel Blackler, a U.S. consul turned alcohol smuggler.
