Happy Memorial Day!
Greetings from R2 Studios and our first summer issue of Good Tape! Summers around here look like a lot of planning for upcoming shows and events, but don't worry--we've still got new content coming at you over the summer as well!
The Consolation Prize team dropped a new episode May 17, "The Consul and I." In this episode, we travel to the country of Siam, where two Americans got involved in an international incident between Siam, France, Britain, and--entirely unnecessarily--the United States. Or at least an American citizen, who inserted himself into the controversy and found himself in a lot of trouble. Hear how the consul in Bangkok had to deal with this unruly American!
We mentioned this a couple weeks ago, and it's worth reiterating-- Consolation Prize's last episode is approaching soon, and in fact this is the last issue of Good Tape before our end of the show party, which will be June 7. We'd love to have you join us--check out the invitation here.
In the meantime, we want to hear from you! We want to hear what you've learned from Consolation Prize. Did you learn about consuls? Did you learn about historical podcasting? Leave us a voicemail on our website telling us what you learned or what you liked about CP and you could win a CP tumbler and coffee!
The Green Tunnel team is working on our next season, and our social media maven, Bridget, was hard at work promoting the show at Trail Days in Damascus, Virginia. Here are a couple pics she got while out on the trail.
We are fortunate at Consolation Prize to have some prestigious listeners and contributors. Thanks Professor Herrera! (By the way, if you want cool swag, become a member of the studio and we'll send you some!)
You know how there are some kids' shows that adults don't mind hearing? "Greeking Out" from National Geographic Kids is one of those shows. In fact, Abby can admit to some degree of impatience while waiting for new seasons to drop--maybe even more than her kids (and "Greeking Out" is their favorite show!). And the theme song is an earworm that you'll find yourself humming at all kinds of strange times. "Stories of gods and goddesses, monsters, and heroes! A kid-friendly retelling of classic ancient Greek myths for the whole family." Great for long car rides with the family this summer.
We are delighted that three podcast team members graduated this month.
Frankie Bjork, a Consolation Prize producer, got her MA in History.
Ashley Palazzo, a Green Tunnel producer, got her MA in History.
And Megan Brett, a Consolation Prize producer and Jedi Knight, got her PhD in History.
Congratulations to you all & may the force be with you!
This delightful photo of Dr. Megan Brett was taken by Charlotte M. Hayes of Shutterbug’s Creations.
For just a few dollars a month, you can help us make amazing audio stories. Your money goes to helping us make our space better, hiring voice actors, paying for music and archival tape, and so much more.
Plus, if you become a member, you could get a super cool tumbler or a cool t-shirt! There’s really no downside here.
And that’s it for this edition of “Good Tape!” Thanks for reading, and we’ll see you next time.
