Happy February!
Welcome back! We've got a lot of stuff cooking right now, so let's jump right in--but first, don't forget that you can become a member of R2 Studios and support the production of great audio. Read to the bottom of this epistle to learn more!
Consolation Prize is back! After a long winter's nap, we're back with a blockbuster episode about James Weldon Johnson. You may know him for his work with the NAACP, or for his song, "Lift Ev'ry Voice and Sing," but did you know he was also a consul in Latin America during the 1910s? Hear the story of Johnson, and hear him read some of his own poems, in our episode "Views and Re-Views."
The Green Tunnel is talking trash--trash on the trail--in its most recent episode. In "Leave Only Footprints," we take on the question of what happens when we encourage people to hike and be outdoors, only to then have to deal with the problems of people hiking and being outdoors. What can we do to keep the natural environment healthy? How have people thought about trash in the past? All this in our newest episode.
Becoming a member of our studio means cool swag (see below) but it also means our heartfelt appreciation.
Thanks, Brenda, for your support!
Several of us here at the studio have been listening to The Trojan Horse Affair, the new show from Serial/NYTimes. It's a fascinating look at not only a mystery document that caused a lot of heartache for a lot of people, but also what it means to be a journalist. Definitely worth a listen.
This is a purely selfish moment of delight, but I want to show off our cool swag that just arrived. It has given me great delight to drink my beverages out of this tumbler for the past few days, and I can attest that it's high quality and a good value. If you want one, all you need to do is give a $5/month recurring donation, or donate $75 one time (if you do, you'll also get a t-shirt!). If Consolation Prize swag is not your jam, never fear--we have a Green Tunnel tumbler as well, just the same style except it's green. --Abby
