Happy fall!
Welcome back to Good Tape! We're still just getting going on our podcast seasons, but there's a lot of excitement around podcasting here at the Roy Rosenzweig Center for History and New Media. (Just check out our Moment of Delight for proof!)
We've also been hearing from a lot of folks around the history and podcasting world who are interested in working with us, so we're working on some guidelines for how those partnerships might work. Once we've got them nailed down, you'll be able to find those on our website, r2studios.org.
The launch of R2 Studios comes in conjunction with a major grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation that is funding the studio for several years and helping us to find new sustainable income pipelines so we can make amazing stuff here at the Center. You can read more about the grant here.
We launched The Green Tunnel! Episode 1 is out now wherever you get your podcasts. Plus, the show has its own newsletter, which you can subscribe to. Sign up for "5 Million Steps" here. Once a month, receive new information about our episodes you won't find anywhere else, plus a previews of what's to come.
Season 2 of Consolation Prize is just around the corner: the first episode will be out by the next time you receive this newsletter. In the meantime, please take a few minutes to fill out our listener survey!
Initial reviews of The Green Tunnel have been great! Here's one review from Apple Podcasts: "I love to learn while I’m walking and this podcast is perfect because I seldom have time to read a book. The creator is a professor at George Mason University and an historian of the Appalachian Trail so I can be sure that I am getting accurate information. My only regret is that it doesn't come out more often. I have listened to the first episode 4 times!!"
You can also leave us a review; this helps us to know what you like or don't like, and it helps other people decide whether to listen as well.
Two different people recommended this podcast independently of each other, so how could we not feature it? This week we're listening to Cocaine and Rhinestones, a podcast about the history of country music.
In the Center we have boards where people can write ideas about things. It took about 4 days for this board to go from blank to what it is now; the excitement is high here about the possibilities of podcasting and doing history for your ears. Who knows, maybe some of these shows will be in your podcast app someday!
And that's it for this edition of "Good Tape!" Thanks for reading, and we'll see you next time.
