Flip Flop Festival Fun
Greetings from R2 Studios. Late April is a great time here at the studio, as the natural rhythm of university life ramps up toward graduation, imbuing us all with a feeling of urgency and joy. We are also starting development on several new podcasts, so stay tuned!
The Consolation Prize team dropped a new episode April 19: "Remember the Lusitania." While the title is a big hint about the episode, there is a lot more to the story than the tragic torpedoing of the passenger ship. Tune in to find out about lifelong diplomat Wesley Frost, and his assignment at Queenstown, Ireland, "the world’s most stately harbor," and how it became "the port of horrors."
Believe it or not, Consolation Prize's last episode is approaching soon. To celebrate the life of the show, we're planning an event on June 7
! We'll have more details for you about that soon. In the meantime, we want to hear from you! We want to hear what you've learned from Consolation Prize. Did you learn about consuls? Did you learn about historical podcasting? Leave us a voicemail on our website telling us what you learned or what you liked about CP and you could win a CP tumbler and coffee!
The Green Tunnel team is working on our next season, and we had a fun field trip last weekend at the annual Flip Flop Festival! The Flip Flop Festival in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, is an Appalachian Trail hiker event that celebrates folks who complete the trail but not in the traditional thru-hiker fashion from Georgia to Maine. Rather they start in the middle of the trail at Harpers Ferry, go north, and then flip flop around, completing the southern half of the trail last. This helps both the trail and the hikers as it allows for a more even flow during the hiking season. You can read more about the Flip Flop Festival here.
The only thing we love more than our listeners sharing our podcast with family and friends is when our listeners recommend our show for use in the classroom! Thanks so much to Anne Foster for giving us a shout out on Twitter!
We have been listening to a podcast that you might enjoy: Collected. "Collected is a project of the African American History Curatorial Collective at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History. This podcast offers compelling and accessible journeys through topics in African American history that are particularly relevant today."
Pictured here is the Green Tunnel Team on their the Flip Flop Festival field trip.
