Hi friends,
It's been almost two months since my last update, and I'm still house-sitting here in Upstate New York. Much has occurred since my last newsletter went out; I did an artist talk at Luck Dragon in Delhi, NY, went on a 7-day silent retreat at IMS, acquired a canine hiking buddy, taught an online HTML/CSS class, and was generally quite busy. I guess I assumed that being tucked away in the woods would be more quiet and peaceful, but at the same time I'm quite happy that we've found lots of interesting things to do that don't involve going into a large city.
I have some things to announce! First off, encouraged by positive responses from my last email, I decided to go ahead with my "zine subscription" idea. However, I realized that doing it through Patreon would result in being somewhat locked into their ecosystem, so I found an alternative: running subscriptions directly through Stripe, and creating a page on my own website with all the info. After finally getting everything set up, I am pleased to present... ZINE CLUB!
If you're interested in receiving mysterious virtual and/or physical objects, and supporting weird art, here is the link to check it out: https://palomakop.tv/zine-club/
On Saturday, April 13, I'll be returning to Luck Dragon, an art supply store and community space in Delhi, NY, to teach a workshop on analog video feedback with Phase Shift Collective. More info here: https://luckdragon.space/event/video-feedback.html
There are still a couple slots open for my Video Feedback with Cameras course on Polyphase Portal, which starts this coming Tuesday, March 12 (which is coming up very soon as I write this email, but this class is a bit of an experiment, since I haven't taught this sort of thing online before; if it works out well, I hope to offer it again at some point!) More info here: https://polyphaseportal.xyz/video-feedback-with-cameras/
Here are some things I've been up to since my last email.
I did a collaborative performance with modular musician Matthew Ryals at The Avalon in Catskill, NY...
Andrei and I did a Phase Shift video installation at a dying mall in Ithaca, NY for an event hosted by Anna Oxygen...
We also led a Phase Shift video art workshop at The Psychic Garden in Rochester, NY...
Silvering Toward Invisible, a group exhibition I'm in, opened in Portland, Maine...
More writing and images about those things is on the "News" section of my website, which I just finally finished updating with the things I've done so far this year. Keeping my site updated can be tricky; the more things I'm doing, the more updates I get queued up, and the less time I have to actually post them. But I'm hoping to slow down on doing events and such for a bit, so I can have more time in the studio, and more time to chill, in the near future.
My first online HTML/CSS course through Polyphase Portal is now over, and it went really well. I enjoyed sharing my methods and making mistakes live in the screen-share, showing the messy process behind creating hand-coded websites. It was also super cool to see all the participants' websites come together. I am definitely planning to do it again at some point.
Lastly, website, design, and video work for clients of Moon Ark Studio continues! Once I finish the current round of projects, I'm hoping to take some time to put together a portfolio of what we've done so far, to share what I've been up to and provide examples to inspire future clients. If you ever need my creative or technical services, feel free to get in touch!
That's it for now, until I send out another newsletter in a month, or two, or three... Thank you for staying in touch with me in this way, and helping me avoid corporate-owned social media platforms!
Until next time, be well.
Best,
Paloma Kop
