DONE IS BETTER THAN PERFECT
A newsletter, in which the artist tries desperately to write something that does not sound like an apology in place of perfection.
I’ve given myself a new task, to share what I make with more intention. I spend so much time on my art, but I’ve not put the same effort into how I gift it to you, dear viewer.
So, it starts with a monthly newsletter (which will have an archive you can peruse here). In this monthly format, I may yammer about what I am working on, I’ll announce when new artworks and prints are available, and (my favourite bit) I’ll have a little sharing section, a summery of what is inspiring me currently, what I'm reading, and things I think you should know about.
So with that introduction in place, lets talk art!
The painting fresh off my easel is this piece “Dreaming of Artio” a small gouache, pencil crayon, and watercolour original painted for today’s Every Day Original.
If you are curious about the process, I have a free post up on Patreon with more details about it.

The last two months have truly been kicked into high gear, and I’ve been deep in the research art mines. My dear friend Jori and I are creating an art show based on a mutually adored fairy tale East of the Sun and West of the Moon, which will be on display in August at the Summer Art Gallery on Denman Island.
It’s going to be an absolute delight, I tell ya. Top tier Whimsy.

And later this week I am jetting off to Saskatchewan to bother the family and attend a little memorial art retreat with some lovely humans I have not seen for many years. Forecasting: all the emotions.
For the Collectors
The original Dreaming of Artio painting is available on Every Day Original and also as a print in my shop.
I’ll be closing my shop on Thursday afternoon for a few weeks, so I’m having a cheeky little sale for those of you who read this far. Use the code NEWSLETTER (until June 20th 12pm PDT) at checkout for %15 off everything (stickers, prints, original art, you name it)
SHARING CORNER (working title)
(things I’ve been reading, loving, or learning about)
Threadings, a substack essay newsletter by Ismatu Gwendolyn. Each one comes with an audio transcription, and her voice is like a cup of warm honeyed tea to sooth the sore throat of humanity. Try “the role of the artist is to load the gun”
The Magic in Feeling Lost, a lovely little inspiring Muddy Colors article written by artist Vanessa Lemen
I recently learned about the artist Wally Dion (b.1976, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) Wally Dion is a Canadian artist of Saulteaux ancestry living and working in upstate New York. Wally currently has a show up in Vancouver of some gorgeous quilts.
I’ve been listening to the Rob Inglis version of the Lord of the Rings, and he is such a delight. He sings all the little songs in the books, and has subtle but wonderful voices for each character. It’s the first time I’ve delved into the books since I was a child, and I have been really loving the glimpses of traditional fairy tale narrative poking through the story.
Thanks for reading!
Wishing you a beautiful day.
