Weekly Recommendation: Woher weißt Du das?
Hey there!
Here’s your weekly German media recommendation from Monoglot Anxiety. This time, it’s the science podcast Woher weißt Du das? from ZEIT WISSEN.
But first, a quick note from me:
The first month of the Lazy Italian Experiment is over, and I will be posting an update to the blog soon. You can follow what I'm up to re: Italian, German, and everything else on Twitter @monoglotanxiety and follow my chaotic stream of consciousness + opinions no one asked for on language learning if that's what you're into.
I also post longer updates to the Buy Me a Coffee page. If you like what I do and want to support the site and its running costs, it'd be awesome if you'd consider throwing some coffee change my way. You can also sign up to support the blog monthly. If you sign up, you'll be my first monthly supporter! So you'll get to have quite the hand in deciding what supporter rewards will look like going forward.
With that all out of the way, on to the recommendation!
Woher weißt Du das?
It should come as no surprise to followers of the blog that I am recommending a science podcast. Science YouTube channels were my first introduction to "real" German content—because scientific vocabulary often overlaps pretty well between English and German and I'm generally familiar with the topics, popular science content has long been one of my favorite things to consume in German. Woher weißt Du das? is a monthly podcast from ZEIT WISSEN, the science magazine of die ZEIT, one of Germany's newspapers of record. It includes everything from reported coverage of newsworthy science topics to deep dives into things like climate change, mental health, and engineering projects like the Brenner Base Tunnel. If you're looking for a professional-quality journalistic science podcast, check out Woher weißt Du das?.
You can listen to the podcast on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and many other podcast platforms.
One of many solid ZEIT podcasts
ZEIT has plenty more up its sleeve when it comes to podcasts (and reading material), and it's worth checking out their other podcasts if you like Woher weißt Du das? or are looking for a podcast on something other than science. Servus. Greüzi. Hallo., which I recommended in a previous newsletter, is also by ZEIT, and there are entertaining podcasts on everything form American absurdity (Ok, America?) to art (Augen zu). There's also a daily news podcast called Was jetzt? that makes a good German ersatz for English-language shows like The Daily.
That’s it for this week!
