Weekly Recommendation: Transistor
Hey there!
Here’s your weekly German media recommendation from Monoglot Anxiety. This time, it's the YouTube channel Transistor.
But first, a quick note from me:
No real updates time. If you want to complain about (or perhaps, compliment) my recommendations, you can get in touch on Twitter @monoglotanxiety or by shooting an email to hello@monoglotanxiety.com. You can also get in touch, support the blog, or send a one-time donation from the Buy Me A Coffee page.
With that out of the way, on to the recommendation...
Transistor
I usually try to recommend large channels with big followings that appeal to a broad audience — this is not that kind of recommendation. My new favorite YouTuber, Transistor is nerdy, weird, wonderful, and definitely not for everyone. But if you're a bit of a geek, an academic (or ex-academic like me), into engineering or science generally, or enjoy authentic nerdy humor, give it a try. Hosted by electrical engineer Sophia, Transistor is unabashedly random and seems to be entirely unconcerned with monetization/optimization, with videos uploaded on a "random upload schedule nach Lust, Laune, und Motivation" and spanning a range of topics and formats that somehow includes both science journalism, analyses of Star Trek episodes, and a song about a naked elf set over a stop-motion video made with LEGO and Playmobil figures. It's exactly my kind of weird.

Mailab, wissenschaftlich geprüft
For those of you familiar with the popular science channel Mailab, Transistor takes Mailab's "Wissenschaftlich geprüft" concept and applies it to Mailab itself. The videos are almost obscenely nerdy and very entertaining, and I think that Transistor's take is fair without being overly critical or leaning into fake positivity. If you're not sure where to start with Transistor's channel and already like Mailab, I'd recommend these videos as a place to start.
That's all for this week,
Elise from Monoglot Anxiety
