Weekly Recommendation: Terra X Lesh & Co on YouTube
Hey there!
Here’s your weekly German media recommendation from Monoglot Anxiety. This time, it’s the YouTube channel Terra X Lesch & Co.
Terra X Lesch & Co
If you're a fan of any or all of Cosmos, the Discovery Channel, Bill Nye, or Kurzgesagt, you'll like Terra X Lesch & Co. An arm of Terra X, the (better) German version of the Discovery channel, this science channel breaks down fascinating topics in physics and astronomy for a science-curious audience. The main host, Harald Lesch, is a walking, talking physicist stereotype—sweater vests, coffee mug and all. It’s a great channel with interesting videos and a dynamic team of co-hosts including Mai Nguyen-Kim of the (amazing) German science channel Mailab.
German science YouTube is awesome
I've written about this before, but it bears repeating: German science YouTube is awesome, not only in quality, but also as an aide for intermediate German learners. A complex topic like science might seem like a difficult place to start dipping your toes into authentic German content, but you'd be surprised --- thanks to the overlap between English and German scientific vocabulary, science videos were actually the first German videos I could understand without too much strain. If you're into science enough to already be a bit familiar with the topics discussed, it only gets easier.
That’s all for this week. Until next Friday (or Saturday, if I'm late again)!
