Weekly Recommendation: Is lieb?
Hey there!
Here’s your weekly German media recommendation from Monoglot Anxiety. This time, it's the webcomic Is lieb?
But first, a quick note from me:
Want to share your language journey on my blog? I'm looking for normal folks at all stages of language learning to share their stories on my blog this summer and beyond. Specifically, I want to share your stories with the first foreign language(s) you learned because you wanted to, and not just for school.
If you're interested in writing a guest post, just shoot me an email!
Is lieb?
Is lieb? is a (mostly) stick-figure webcomic (and sometimes animation) about random, relatable topics. Comics are rarely longer than a single image, and the language is often rather simple (if rather infromal) and easy to understand, so I'm recommending it with language learners in mind. Finding entertaining content in comprehensible but still casual language can be difficult, and Is lieb? fits the bill. I enjoy the comics and follow Is lieb? on Twitter for a welcome bit of humor in my feed.
A tip for finding more comics in German
For the Twitterites among you, here's a tip for finding more comics in German: find Is lieb? on Twitter and check out who they're following. Leap-frogging through the mutual follows of artists is a great way to tap into networks that can lead you to new artists worth following. I found a lot of other German comic artists by exploring away from my starting point at Is lieb?
This would, of course, work well for things besides art. Like science and want to learn German? Follow one cool German-Tweeting scientist and see who they follow. Odds are that they understand the Germanophone science scene better than you, and already follow plenty of people worth following.
