Weekly Recommendation: Gekommen um zu Bleiben by Wir Sind Helden
Hey there!
Here’s your weekly German media recommendation from Monoglot Anxiety. This time, it's "Gekommen um zu Bleiben" by Wir Sind Helden
But first, a quick note from me:
No real updates time. If you want to complain about (or perhaps, compliment) my recommendations, you can get in touch on Twitter @monoglotanxiety or by shooting an email to hello@monoglotanxiety.com. With that out of the way, on to the recommendation...
"Gekommen um zu Bleiben"
I love this song — part pop, part swing, I can't help but start dancing a bit when it comes on. "Gekommen um zu Bleiben" was the first song I encountered by Wir Sind Helden, a German pop group that has topped the charts in Germany and Austria with practically every album it has released. I like this song for German learners because the lyrics are somewhat repetitive. If nothing else, you'll know how to say "gekommen um zu bleiben" by the time you're done listening to it. There's also a bit of English sprinkled into the song, which I find fun.
Check out the song on YouTube, or wherever you listen to music.
The swing-iest version of this swing song, with a bonus recommendation: Max Raabe
If you like swing music, check out this version of "Gekommen um zu Bleiben" performed at the 2005 Echo music prize ceremony. The performance features Max Raabe, a rather famous German singer who's worth knowing if you're into throwback big-band jazz and swing.
That's all for this week,
Elise from Monoglot Anxiety
