Weekly Recommendation: Ein Kompliment by Sportfreunde Stiller
Hey there!
Here’s your weekly German media recommendation from Monoglot Anxiety. This time, it's the song Ein Kompliment by Sportfreunde Stiller
But first, a quick note from me:
Want to share your language journey on my blog? I'm looking for normal folks at all stages of language learning to share their stories on my blog this summer and beyond. Specifically, I want to share your stories with the first foreign language(s) you learned because you wanted to, and not just for school.
If you're interested in writing a guest post, just shoot me an email!
Also, I just turned 25. Happy officially mid-20s to me!
"Ein Kompliment"
Listening to Sportfreunde Stiller brings me right back to early-2010s school dances where I awkwardly swayed side to side to 90s music heavy on electric guitar. While the , a German indie-rock group, which formed in 1995, definitely did not feature on the typical American school dance playlist, something about it really just screams 90s to me. But hey, I'm no music critic. Give them a listen yourself and see what you think. I usually favor more acoustic sounds, but this group is an exception.
"Ein Kompliment" is my favorite song by the group and one of my favorite German songs in general. It is what it says it is: a compliment. The lyrics aren't that hard to follow, the guitar melody is pleasant and memorable, and it's just sweet.
Where to listen
You can listen to "Ein Kompliment" with all the usual suspects: Spotify and YouTube. There's also an MTV Unplugged version that was performed in New York, which you can listen to on YouTube as well.
