Terror in White County (Bottom Feeders)
The Whiteport Observer
By Waylon Wilson. June 6, 1957
The citizens of our sleepy town of Whiteport, California received a rude shock this morning when they were awakened from peaceful slumber by a gang of ruffians blasting down Main Street on motorcycles.
Identified by eyewitnesses as having a Crab sewn onto the back of their vests, the gang raced up and down the street, littering and cursing, coming dangerously close to hitting other motorists and pedestrians. Total disregard for law and order was shown and the group violated several local noise ordinances.
"The town of Whiteport will not stand for such delinquent behaviour," said newly appointed Sheriff Jack Tomlinson of the incident. "I will not stand for it. We live in a society of laws and I intend to enforce those laws. Any punk who wants to break the law has no business in this county."
Similar incidents have been reported in Hunt county, with the group marauding up and down the coast with impunity. The identity of the perpetrators is currently unknown, with rumours circulating that the ringleaders may be war veterans. Whether Sheriff Tomlinson and his deputies can curb the outlaw behaviour and restore order to our county remains to be seen. The issue is likely to be a contentious one in Tomlinson's first year, with the newcomer toppling incumbent Sheriff John Getty by a mere fifty votes.
The sheriff's department has advised that in the interest of public safety, no citizen should approach this group of renegades, though some citizens of Whiteport have vehemently expressed their intention to defend themselves.
"I don't care what the sheriff says," said George Anderson, 50, of Whiteport. "If those kids come around my shop and start causing a ruckus, I'll fill their asses with buckshot quicker than you can say motorcycle."
