OnlyFans and Talibans
Hey there. Welcome to the Kites can’t fly newsletter, a little ditty about how we live with the news, social media, and techology. I’m cory zanoni.
This week on Kites can’t fly
Here’s what I’ve published recently. Spoiler: I’m pretty against everything happening in Afghanistan right now.
- OnlyFans drops sexually explicit content after censoring from MasterCard, VISA, and banks. The only money shot MasterCard wants to see is your monthly interest bill.
- How the media covers Afghanistan matters (and it’s not great). The same people who perpetuated the war in Afghanistan now want to you to forget they were involved. Good thing we have journalists to correct things no wait they’re doing the opposite. Good.
- Does Uber charge you more if your phone battery is low?. It seems like the kind of thing they’d do.
- The Taliban has seized US biometric and face recognition tech. Somehow, the shocked-Pikachu meme feels both apt and wildly inappropriate.
- Misinformation and the missing piece. Everyone is susceptible to misinformation. Except for me. I only write about how we can limit that susceptibility for fun.
Good stuff
- “Does it offend you, or are you offended on behalf of a theoretical someone you are thinking of in your head?”.
- CM Punk is back in a wrestling ring and it’s transcendent.
- “Should I play a villain in Sonic 2??? I know one way to make Idris Elba’s knuckles disappear.”
- ‘Pissing absolutely everyone off with my new take, “the US could’ve brutally crushed the Taliban if the military was more diverse”’.
- The Day the Good Internet Died
- Miss Grit’s Imposter EP is very good. And Amyl and The Sniffer’s upcoming album is shaping up to slay.
Thanks for reading.
