In the world of web development, time moves really fast. It’s almost like dog years. It’s so easy to feel like you’re falling behind, or just running in circles trying to keep up with the latest developments in development.
Don’t get me wrong, I love the newness! It’s just that sometimes I worry that it takes the focus off of learning fundamental skills. Like testing.
As the old saying goes, the best time to learn testing was 10 years ago. The second best time is now.
This brings me to today’s question:
Where will you be six months from now?
Will you still be running around in circles? Will you still be fighting fires when your applications have bugs that get deployed?
It doesn’t have to be like that.
Bugs go down, confidence goes up. It’s physics. Probably.
Seriously though, learning to test is the type of skill that stands out. Having this knowledge and ability puts you in a fantastic position to contribute to an open source project, or maybe get a raise.
