Hey y'all! So my neck is still super screwed up. I've talked to a few doctors at this point and the general response has been "wow that sucks." I'm talking to another specialist this coming week and hoping for new/better answers. I can still do my work, but the cloud of pain and general inability to do what I normally do has been tough.
In brighter news, I just posted a new article about one of my favorite things: kratom! I've been recommending kratom to my friends for years and, even though it's not the sort of thing I usually share, I thought some people might benefit from it. So if you're curious about kratom or if you've never heard about it, check out the short article. It's been a big help for me and I hope it helps some other folks.
I'm painting figures again! God it feels good to be back to it. It's weird to think that figure painting is my comfort zone these days. Couldn't believe that a few years ago.
I'm also pretty thrilled with these results. I think they're crossing the line from "good for a landscape artist" to just... "good."
I'm working on some tutorial content (both written and video) and will be narrating some of my process on painting figures and learning to improve. If you've got any questions, send 'em over. Just reply to this email. I think I've got a lot of stuff covered already but I always like to hear what people want. Sometimes I miss some blatantly obvious stuff.
My wife, Rachel, just launched a new mailing list and it's great. I'm not just saying that because I'm married to her. It's actually really good, interesting, thoughtful content. You should go subscribe to her substack. The internet is too full of junk and needs more thoughtful, long-form content like this. Are there any other mailing lists you subscribe to? I'm always on the lookout for new stuff.
