What do you hate NOT doing? (5 for Friday from Josh Steele)
Hi there! Hope you've had a great week! Any fun plans for the weekend?
- Over at 8020 Tools, I wrote about the Slow Carb Diet and one of my favorite mental models, Hanlon's Razor.
- At The Rev. Dev, I wrote about avoiding online scams.
- If you're into pocket knives like I am, the Civivi Mini Praxis is a crazy good knife for under $30! Check it out.
- I'm trying to journal more regularly these days, and doing so has reminded me how much I love the uni PowerTank RT pen. It's like a cheap "space pen" -- can write on almost anything, upside-down, underwater, etc. I love it and almost always have one with me.
- I recently read Hell Yeah or No: What's Worth Doing by Derek Sivers. It was great! Here's a gem from it: What do you hate not doing?
When we wonder what’s worth doing, we ask ourselves, “What do I really love?” or “What makes me happy?”
That question never really goes well, does it?
Maybe it’s because there’s a long list of things that make us happy, and we need to narrow it down further. Or maybe because the things with the deepest rewards don’t always provide shallow pleasures along the way.
So try this question instead:
What do you hate not doing?
What makes you feel depressed, annoyed, or like your life has gone astray if you don’t do it enough?
Answers to this double-negative question seem to be better indicators of what’s really worth doing.
What do you hate NOT doing? Let me know!
Cheers! Have a great weekend!
