Egads! A newsletter!
Over the years I've toyed with the idea of setting up a newsletter, but never taken the final plunge until now. All of the writerly advice out there says you must hoard email addresses and readers like gold (silver? GameStop shares?), and from a business perspective I appreciate this, but at the same time I really don't want to contribute to the information glut we all seem to be plagued with.
So what's changed?
Well, I've finally made the decision to self-pub some of my writing this year. I've got a finished novelette, Catnip and Brimstone, that I'll be offering (once it's available) to all newsletter subscribers, with the follow-up full-length novel currently in the works. The newsletter is a straightforward way to get the novelette to people who are interested, and also a means to let people know about the novel once it's finished.
Other things you can expect to see here from time-to-time:
- progress updates - how things are actually, you know, progressing with works-in-progress. Snippets, writing notes, and what I'm learning about this publishing bizzo.
- other news - I'll try not to overlap with the actual blog too much, but anything significant will of course get a mention!
- photos - I live in Eastbourne, New Zealand, a lovely wee village across the harbour from Wellington. I'll make sure to include some photos for a glimpse of life way out here.
- books & music - anything that's floating my boat
- blog round-up links - short & sweet, so as to avoid overload
And with that, I think we have enough for a starter-upper newsletter. If you'd like to sign up you can expect a once-(or twice, max)-a-month letter from me.
Take care, and thanks!
Jess
