Late To The Party

I just emerged on a beautiful beach in Mozambique after 3 days of travelling, apologies for the delay! The next few newsletter issues will be reduced to still share awesome things with you, while honoring that I am on vacation. But I genuinely enjoy writing these issues too much to skip them completely, so let’s dive into some machine learning!

The Latest Fashion

  • How about a $250,000 USD cash grant for your AI-native product idea to kick things off? The AI grant is by some awesome people for awesome people so check it out!
  • This Hacker News thread on the proper way to get into ML in 2022 was fun to browse
  • How about giving your torch tensor dimensions names instead of guessing the index?

My Current Obsession

I just arrived in Mozambique and while getting ready meant getting Visas and a ton of vaccinations, I must say it already paid off after taking a single look outside. I have also met a few people on the way and I have to admit, I should’ve learnt a few words of Portuguese at least, regardless, everyone has been extremely welcoming and kind. Clearly, I have vacation on my mind!

Additionally, the Pydata Global deadline is approaching fast, and I was hoping for some last-minute miracles. We’ll see how that works out! Do you think I should submit my tutorial from Euroscipy I could only present half of?

Thing I Like

Shoutout to Nobite the insect repellent that doesn’t stink and is incredibly effective!

Hot off the Press

I decided to publish the notebooks about ML reproducibility on my blog. I’m quite proud of the work, and I think it’s nice to also see them nicely formatted.

Here’s the main page and so far I published the Data Preparation notebook.

In the end, I really just hope this information and the notebooks have the most reach they can to help as many people as possible.

Tidbits from the Web

  • The Scottish Railway had to publish their full recordings of announcements, and someone made a lo-fi beats website out of it, which weirdly works really well.
  • Someone won a digital art competition with a piece generated by Midjourney and digital artists are unhappy about it. It’s a good-looking piece of art though.
  • Here are colorful charts that visualize how different numbers and days feel as colours for people with synesthesia.
