Why this newsletter exists and what’s in it for you
Hi, my name is Jarno Virtanen. I’m infinitely curious about all things related to programming and software development. (I’m curious about all the things in the multiverse, but this newsletter is concentrated on those two topics.)
However, I feel like I only have average smarts when it comes to brainy stuff. Someone might say this is false modesty. They might be right. But that’s how I feel. The brainy programming stuffy makes my head hurt. (Not literally.)
However 2: I’ve worked in this industry for so long that I no longer give a shit if I make a fool of myself. I’m not the smartest person out there, but I am effective, therefore my ego isn’t too vulnerable to the idea of telling the world how not-smart I might be.
And it turns out the most interesting writing comes from just being honest. Don’t get me wrong: being honest in public is hard. This is one of those things when saying that doing something is hard, it doesn’t feel hard when you say that, but you never get around to actually doing the thing, because it is actually hard.
The schedule
I have no idea, sorry. I’ve written the first post and I have ideas for future ones, but I’m not sure when I get the next one out.
What’s with the ‘jajvirta’?
It was my Unix login name in the University of Helsinki back in the 90s. It has stuck with me ever since. Don’t ask me why.
