Hey there. For someone who said that they'd be running a weekly newsletter, I've been pretty inconsistent. This entry is a bit longer than usual.
I've been looking to do too much and recently, a friend had to remind me why doing a lot of things at work results in a lot of unfinished stuff. That said, y'all get to see a sneak peek of a project I've been sitting on for two years (on and off) dubbed twchat. It's still rough around the edges and it's something I try to spend quality time but it's part of my personal shift into side products. That's in a longer post.
For the last 60 days, I've managed to (more or less) maintain a morning routine that looks a bit like this:
It's a bit of a long list. I get up at 5:55 AM every day (+/- 10 minutes) and leave my place by 8:20 AM (+/- 5 minutes). This routine "unlocked" my mornings for me and lets me do whatever now. Like even on a day like today, I ended up plopping down in front of my laptop feeling stronger, prepped and ready to do whatever. I'll write more about how I got to this point on my blog.
I'm heading to Portland, Oregon for the IndieWeb Summit. I mentioned it on my blog but just highlighting again for those locals. I'm also attending FusionConf with a keynote by one of the co-founders of Good For PoC in Tech and accompanying talks by the other (Catt Small and Amélie Lamont respectively). I guess it's a micro pull up for all of us! That's happening in North Carolina, so if you're out there, let me know.
Lastly, this is your 24-hour reminder that not only is WaffleJS is happening tomorrow but that I'll be hosting it! If you're in the SF/Bay Area, hit me up, cop a ticket and enjoy a bunch of fun talks with donuts (not in my meal plan - haha).
One more side project I'm planning on finishing up is my public affirmation site. It's going to be me experimenting with type and how it's presented on the Web. The affirmations are sourced from the ones I write every day (nothing more than a few sentences). This way, I can share what helps me remain confident and become more of a designer.
Anything interesting happening with you? Got some news? Let me know and I'll be sure to highlight it. Until next time.
