Sponge and the dream of clarity.

State of the Desk

Sponge.

It’s all the things I absorb from various things I consume.
Fiction, nonfiction.
Audiovisuals, written words, music, and more.
Also, human-made creations as well as life itself.

Or should I say, it’s the other way around?
They consume me, too, as I consume them.
They’re always on my mind.
So I thought, I gotta organize this particular aspect of my life.

In that spirit, Sponge comes in both the audio format (a podcast) and the written format (a blog).

This was inevitable. One can talk about books on a podcast and include short quotes. However, one cannot talk about music and include audio snippets in a podcast very easily, without breaking the law. (Unless one chooses to use Spotify’s Music + Talk feature. However, that would restrict one to the Spotify platform due to licensing agreements. And I didn’t want to make something just for one platform that I don't own.)

With blogs, it’s much easier to embed/link audio, through Youtube, Spotify, whatever.

Anyway, continuing the spirit of organizing this particular aspect of my life, the logo of Sponge comes in complementary colors: light purple and light yellow.

Complementary.
Opposite.
Clear.

Yes, I am in search of clarity.

Another manifestation of this search is the Corpus page that lists (or rather, will eventually fully list) everything I ever did, publicly, creation-wise.

Also, I may shut down Memento Mori Moments. The way Sponge is set up, there are very few things it cannot encompass. I’m wondering if it’s better to update Sponge more frequently, rather than running both Sponge and MMM.

But then, I really like the name MMM.
3M. I could update it every third Monday or something. 😁
We shall see.

For now, I am focusing on Sponge without closing MMM.
Also, I am focusing on:

  • Getting my English backlist up and fairly widely available.

  • Closely reading a new book for translation, which ORCABOOKS will officially sign soon.

  • In general, taking care of everything the Korean pen name wants to do, so that the English pen name can rest assured that she will be left alone, in quiet, in the near future.

At birth, the Korean pen name was nothing more than... a name. It was basically a tag. Now she is a person of her own. She has things she wants to do.

And to my (Ithaka’s) great annoyance, she happens to be more extroverted than us (me and Ithaka).

Yes, sometimes these names have personalities of their own that I do not control.

But you know what’s nice? They aren’t me.

So it’s not like I get out of control.
It’s them! (Me!)
It’s all about them! (Me!)

Anyway.

If you like podcasts, please check out Sponge.
Even if not, maybe you were wondering what my voice sounds like. That podcast has my voice. That’s actually one of the reasons I am doing the podcast.

I like knowing people’s voices, more than knowing their faces. That’s just me. Maybe you’re like me?

So, enjoy Sponge, if you’re into spongy absorption stuff.
Happy listening.
Happy summer.

Stay hydrated, cool, and true to yourself.

Until next time,
Ithaka.
