There is No More Normal
Been reading more than my share of articles about what’s happening now that the US is opening up again. Many people do not or cannot resume their “normal” lives. We will never be able to untangle the damage done to our self-confidence by the one-two punch of Trump and the pandemic, and the mental health system will never be big enough to handle us all. The Kaiser Family Foundation has found that depression and anxiety have increased four-fold since 2019.

So here are some articles to read in lieu of professional help. For those who can’t get behind The Economist’s paywall, the video says most of it. And for the icing on the cake, AZ Gov. Ducey has not only had to cut off unemployment but promise a $2000 bonus to lure people back to work. What have they learned that makes them so leery of jobs? It’s more than Covid. “Going to work” is actually far more costly than staying home. You need gas, clothing, out of home food, and other things staying home renders superfluous.
No wonder “they” are trying to get us to go back to work. Work makes us consumers, and consumption fires the economy. Covid makes us realize the difference between our desires and our needs.
Why ‘getting back to normal’ may actually feel terrifying

Working long hours — 55 or more per week — gives us an approximately 35% higher chance of stroke and a 17% higher chance of heart disease, the study found. In 2016, overwork led to 745,000 deaths, up 26% from 2000. This from an article in Medium: https://onezero.medium.com/well-exit-the-pandemic-with-a-more-realistic-relationship-with-work-c8e946bdd6cb

Here is some good advice for how to prevent stiffness as you get older. While I haven’t prevented it, I’ve mitigated it a lot by taking this advice. https://medium.com/runners-life/how-to-prevent-stiffness-as-you-age-526380aee6d1
