Road Songs (Announcements for April 18)
Hi everyone,
Last week, we saw that Psalm 120 helps us to acknowledge the trouble we face in setting out for heaven. Other ascent Psalms shed light on the troubles that we meet with on the way. Still others tell us of the blessing that we hope to enjoy at our destination.
Some of the most familiar ascent Psalms show the help that God gives to pilgrims on the way. Our text for tomorrow morning, Psalm 121, is one of these. If you’ve been asking lately, “Where does my help come from?” then this Psalm is for you.
I hope that preaching through these Psalms will strengthen our faith in God’s promises, our love and desire for him, and our hope to one day reach the home that Christ is preparing for us in his Father’s house.
Sincerely,
Pastor Goligher
The Lord’s Day
The morning service is at 11:00am. For many, Psalm 121 is a favorite part of Scripture. I’m sure that’s partly because we all recognize that we need God’s help for the journey we are on as Christians, which is what this Psalm is about. Here is the morning order of service.
The evening service is at 5:00pm. The title of this week’s message is “For Example,” from Philippians 3:17. Part of being a Christian is setting a good example for others, and another part is looking to the example of other Christians. Here is the evening order of service.
Through the Week
Prayer Meeting is on Wednesday evening at 7:15pm, on Zoom.
Women’s Bible Study is on Thursday evening at 7pm, on Zoom. We are studying the prophet Isaiah. Please complete the Personal Bible Study (pages 115-118).
Women’s get-together
The ladies will be gathering at Sylvan Park on April 24, 2021 at 10 am. Bring your own blanket and coffee!!! All ladies are welcome, but in order to ensure that everyone can enjoy the conversation, please don’t bring young children.
Online giving
The trustees have been working on a way to receive tithes and offerings through online giving. Stan Liao has prepared a comparison chart to show the different ways of giving, with their benefits and drawbacks. Please talk to Stan if you have any questions.
Looking ahead
Some plans are forming for summer ministry and church life. As we get closer to summer, I will mention these more frequently so you can be praying for these activities, and preparing to join in as you are able.
Summer Pastoral Intern: Jonathan Bartlett, a current student at Greenville Seminary, will be joining us from May 30 to August 22, Lord willing. He will be preaching quite frequently, teaching some Sunday school lessons, and joining in other ministry work through the week.
Vacation Bible School: We are planning a full 5-day VBS from July 12-16, in the mornings. Please mark your family’s calendars, and pass the word to friends and neighbors who might like to participate. We will also need volunteers to help with various aspects of VBS. Some of you have already spoken to Pastor Goligher, so thank you!
Teen Discipleship Practicum: The teens are invited to join in a discipleship plan for the summer. This will include reading the Bible and a few other good books, weekly conversation and fellowship over a pizza lunch, plus some service activities and outings. We are also hoping to have some opportunities to hear from guests about serving Christ in college and the workplace. If you are 12-20 years old, we want you to join us!
