Back at it (Announcements for May 23)
Hi everyone,
Before we get to our usual announcements, let me share the news that Rev. Sal Solis died yesterday. Rev. Solis pastored First OPC Sunnyvale for several years in the 1980s and 90s, and several other congregations in our presbytery as well. Here is a note from the stated clerk of our presbytery:
Pastor Solis was involved in the formation of Sovereign Grace Community Church as mentioned above. He served in several pastorates in this presbytery including First OPC, San Francisco, and First OPC, Sunnyvale as well as serving for a time in his retirement as stated supply for the Hughson Church. Please pray for Pastor Solis' wife Amy; they were married for 66+ years, as well as for their children and other family members.
Back at it
Our congregation has been faithfully praying, and our leadership has been diligently planning for the time to resume many cherished aspects of our church life and ministry. In many important ways, that time has come. We are thankful to God for sustaining us these past months, and hopeful for his blessing on our upcoming service to him.
This return to a fuller schedule of fellowship and ministry means that there are a lot of announcements! There are quite a few details, so please read the following announcements carefully. In particular, notice the announcement about masks.
I am thankful to God for his grace given to you in Christ Jesus (1 Corinthians 1:4). It has especially been a delight to work with our session, deacon, trustees, and many church members to lay plans for serving the Lord. Your zeal for God's kingdom, your hunger for his blessing, and your love for one another has been a great encouragement.
Sincerely,
Pastor Goligher
The Lord’s Day
The morning service is at 11:00am. Here is the morning order of service.
Chloe Goligher will be baptized during the morning service, and after the service everyone is invited to a brief new baby celebration outside under the tent.
The evening service is at 5:00pm. Here is the evening order of service.
Through the Week
Prayer Meeting is on Wednesday evening at 7:15pm, on Zoom.
Women's Bible Study is on Thursday evening at 7pm, on Zoom. We are studying the prophet Jeremiah. Please read the Teaching Chapter (pages 170-184) and complete the discussion questions on pages 185-186.
Teens Mini-Golf: The teens will kick-off our summer with some mini-golf and pizza on Friday afternoon. Meet at Golfland at 12pm, until about 2:30pm. Please talk to Pastor Goligher if you need to arrange a ride.
Masks
The session no longer requests that everyone wear a mask while attending public worship. The public health situation has improved dramatically in recent weeks. In particular:
- We recently installed air-purifiers in our HVAC system, which are capable of filtering the vast majority of virus particles.
- Santa Clara County entered the "yellow tier" (minimal risk) this week.
- Vaccines have been widely available for several weeks.
- The CDC has said that it is safe for vaccinated people to be indoors without a mask.
If you prefer to wear a mask, of course you are welcome to do so.
Tuesday Bible Study
Our Tuesday morning Bible Study will resume on June 1, at 10:30am. We will begin studying Nehemiah. Everyone is welcome to join us at the church, or by Zoom. We have some new video-conferencing equipment that will make it possible to do both at the same time.
Sunday School
We are planning to resume Sunday School on Sunday, June 13. So please mark your calendars for 9:45 am from that Sunday on.
During the summer, the kids will meet in one combined class outside under the tent. The adults will meet in the fellowship hall, as usual.
VBS
It's time to register your kids for VBS, which will be held July 12-16. Check out this announcement for more information, and share it with others too.
If you would like to volunteer at VBS, please meet Pastor Goligher after the morning service next Sunday (May 30).
Intern
Jonathan Bartlett will travel to Sunnyvale this week, to begin his summer pastoral internship with us. We expect that he will worship with us next Lord's Day. Please pray that he will enjoy a safe and comfortable trip.
