Issue 2141
Happy Monday!
This week I gave notice to my landlord and I am moving out of my apartment, so I’ve been busy sorting through the various accoutrements I’ve collected over the past two years. It’s not too bad so I might be finished within the next few days. Here are some things that I’ve been thinking about.
- I’ve noticed that some of my friends really struggle with guilt over being on social media so much. I just don’t feel guilty anymore 😂. All jokes aside, I found it really helpful to curate my various feeds, particularly Instagram since it’s the one I use the most. I am ruthless, I don’t care if you’re family or my oldest friend, if you’re not posting stuff I like (or not posting at all), you’re out. I noticed at one point that scrolling through social media stressed me out more than it brought me joy and cutting out all the noise made it a fun place for me again and it also takes up a lot less of my time. Does anybody have any hacks for Tiktok? I have none 😬
- A little fun with emojis! The other day, I was typing the word vague and this 🌊 came up for me because it’s the French word for wave. It made me smile.
- If you haven’t heard, there is a serious petrol (gasoline) shortage in the UK.
- Sidenote: this word is very annoying for me to explain to non-native English speakers. In the US, we use gas to describe the stuff we cook with and the stuff we put in our cars. In England, the car stuff is called petrol. In a lot of other languages, they also use two different words, and I wish America would get on board. I also wish we could get on board with degrees Celsius, the metric system and dropping day light savings time but alas, here we are.
- Yesterday I started watching Squid Game on Netflix and it’s in Korean so of course there are subtitles and there was a part where people spoke in English for a few lines and the subtitles disappeared. Foreign language shows and movies ALWAYS do this and I do not understand why. I am never mentally prepared for it so I usually miss most of what they’re saying. Is this just me?
As I write, Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram are suffering a worldwide outage. Did it effect you or did you miss it? Thanks for reading! I hope you have a wonderful week!
