Issue 2138
Happy Monday!
I hope you all are having a great start to your week. I have been working on little tech tasks and finishing up a rewatch of Downton Abbey. I really liked it the first time around but thought it was probably one season too long. This is still my opinion the second time around.
Rolling onto random things on my mind this week.
I noticed that Melinda Gates has started officially going by Melinda French Gates in the aftermath of her divorce from Bill. From a branding standpoint, this is probably a good move on her part to establish herself as a seperate entity. It made me wonder why women still change their names when they get married. I suppose it was still 'the thing to do' in 1994 (when they got married). I never liked this tradition and when I was applying for a passport, I learned that if one changes their name, there's a whole different set of documents needed when applying for official documents. No thank you. Also, I think it's kind of messed up that after all the reproductive labor a woman goes through to have a child, it then gets slapped with the name of its father. Seems totally backwards.
I have been stuck in a bit of a reading rut and would like to get out of it. I am about 900 pages into Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged and while I do find some parts very imaginative and interesting, I find other parts of it horribly dull so every time I look at it now, I dread reading. I think its time to take a break with something lighter and go back to it in a week.
Otherwise, I have been working on lots of random little things that are slowly coming together. Has anybody watched anything good lately? Either a series or a movie? Let me know, I feel like I have seen everything good that has ever existed.
Thanks for reading and keep cool!
Sincerely,
Mandy F.
