Issue 2333
Happy Monday!
This has been a busy week in terms of work, which is a great thing! I am really glad though that I had this weekend to fully rest.
Here are some random thoughts:
- I started the week listening to this episode of the Ad Age Marketer’s Brief podcast. The interviewee was Andrew England, Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) of Phillip’s Distilling. He was talking about his company created a vodka line called Cubis that is specifically designed to go in the freezer which apparently never has been done before. He explained how people in the business had the attitude of putting up with the fact that many of their customers put vodka in the freezer rather than embracing it. It made me think of how much money businesses lose due to this sort of snobbishness. Starbucks is the perfect example. People complained about their coffee tasting burnt for decades before they finally listened and launched a lighter roast in 2011. Why did it take so long? I think this is great to keep in mind for anybody with an entrepreneurial mindset who thinks they might be entering into an area that’s overcrowded. There are always gaps in the market and lots of types of customers being overlooked.
- I have only recently learned that it is considered bad form (by some) to put a double space after punctuation at the end of a sentence. This was shocking to me,I was especially trained to do this from my first typing lesson. I went into a huge research wormhole about this and there’s a lot of debate but the conclusion is that it was useful once upon a time (with certain typewriters) for readability but is no longer necessary so I will try to adjust. It’s so automatic for me that it might take awhile. However, I thought this when I had to use a French keyboard (AZERTY vs. QWERTY keyboard) and I got used to it very quickly.
That’s it for now!
Love and hugs,
